new z wave firmware 3.20 won't enter learning state

Hi All,

Is this a known problem? I’ve tried firmware 1.1229 and 1.1234 both added from factory default reset and then enabling z wave version 3.20, but whenever I click the z wave learn button it fails (viewable in MIOS webpage) stating is was unable to enter the learning state.

I’ve had to go back to the older version in order to add my devices again :O(

Did you read this: http://wiki.micasaverde.com/index.php/MigrateTo452

The behavior you mentioned is expected if you didn’t click the button in the advanced tab of the Zwave options that says:

“Hack to convert 2.78 to 3.20”

Really? I thought that was to convert an old database of z wave devices? Im starting from an empty Vera so shouldn’t that not be required?

Thanks

Correct, I take it this was your old Vera? Did you click the reset Z-wave network in the advanced tab of the Zwave controls?

I think this still needs to be done after 3.20 has been activated…even if you’d done a factory reset!

Yes, reset everything and started from scratch.

Bit worrying if the convert hack still needs to be applied.

I have a ticket in but to be honest, I’m finding support to be a tad slow. I guess the hardware is pretty competitively priced :0)

You wont need the hack if you “reset Zwave network” after updating.

For the above to work, then you must do the following order:

 1. Enable 3.20 Zwave branch
 2. Wait for it install (this takes a few mins)
 3. Confirm from the Zwave icon options tab that its using t3.20 L:1
 4. reset the Zwave network form the advanced tab.

If you’d reset first, and then tried to update to 3.20 it wont work unless you reset again.

After adding a few devices it started to fail to go into learn mode repeatedly.
Nodes #'s were being dropped and it was taking numerous attempts to add each device.
After adding about 12 devices I gave up and reverted back to 2.78 and used my Aeon dongle and added devices the old fashioned way, 10 at a time with no issues.

JOD.

Hmm,

Not good, I don’t want to go through the setup process again if it’s just going to fail again, I think I’ll wait for the other ‘beta testers’ out there to get it working before I start again. I don’t minf setting up the scenes etc, that’s quite fun, adding devices when it doesn’t work and going back to square one is not so much fun.

Thanks people, great forum b.t.w.

I also am unable to add devices after I flashed my Vera2 to 1.1.1234 / 3.20. I have two devices (ZIR010 motion detector and Aeon door sensor). See also the thread I started yesterday about this.

How can I check if the Vera2 entered learning mode? I am able to log in to the box with ssh if needed.

the z wave LED on the front panel will flash slowly on and off.

With mine it will flash slowly for a short while then go back to steady on, if I have a browser connected I can see a message in the top right that says “z wave failed to enter learning mode”.

Incidentally, it doesn’t seem to fail when you enter the exclusion mode, that bit works ok (press and hold z wave button for about five seconds), then if you try the include button on a device the browser message is successful.

Don’t know why this is and I’m not currently willing to reset everything and try again and rest the z wave after clicking the “use 3.20” checkobx, although I think I did this already.

Good luck

Put a call in to support and they fixed it remotely for me, don’t know what they did but add device doesn’t crash out anymore.

Fixed it. Indeed, I had to first exclude the devices, as wscannell suggested in the thread I started about this (http://forum.mios.com/index.php?topic=6154.0). Will post more details in that thread.
