New Vera2 user and Foscam IPCamera setup

Hi All,

I finally got my Vera 2 and trying to connect the Foscam FI8908W i have, but it fails. If I miss something please let me know:

 1. I changed the Foscam UID to cdceadmin and password to dcepass. - no problem with the camera access and control from the PC.
 2. connected the Vera2 and got it working
 3. selected devices, and uploaded to vera the I_PanasonicPTZ.xml created by Shady, (see attached)
 4. Created the device and saved it.
 5. Vera will not discover the camera, (specified at the same IP Address as I can access it from my computer, and the respective MAC address)

I would appreciate if someone can create a complete list of steps to go through to configure the FI8908 cam from beginning to the point you can view it and control it. Somehow I got confused by the different pieces of advice I could find at this forum.

Thank you for your help.

Thank you for your cooperation

Nice find!!!

Thank you for the link. My problem is not with the Foscam cam, but with the Vera 2 setting for the Foscam cam. The link is interesting however.

Did you reboot vera? I would give that a try. Sounds like not all of the changes took into effect.

If you are trying to connect the cam to vera via wifi it is important that you insert your username and password under the camera settings in vera(you have probably already done so ;)).
Then follow the link i gave you to setup the cam via wifi. It can be a little fiddely to get it to go wifi, so don’t give up if it’s not working the first time. Follow it carefully and it should work.

Note: Did you put in /snapshot.cgi in the box above Username named Url ?? and rember that the mac/ip adress in wifi is different from the lan mac/ip adress(you find the mac number for wifi on the small label on the cam).

Thanks for the advise. I connected the camera first via cable, to the vera second ethernet port, so that I have a baseline to start. What i reported back was the result of that.
The IP Address was of the Vera domain and the IP Camera MAC address from the camera label.

Thanks for your feedback.

First of all, there are two labels on tha cam. One(the big one) is for lan and the other one is for wifi. Use the ip camera tool that followed the cam and use this to get you wifi correct. Forget vera at this time. Once you got wifi to work with ip camera tool you use the ip adress that pops up when you start the ip camera tool software and the mac adress for wifi(on the cam) and put that info into vera.

Did you make sure to install the Panasonic Plug-In from Mios Marketplace before uploading the file that I posted? If you install the Panasonic PTZ plug-in after uploading the file I posted or not at all, then it won’t work.

Then make all of the changes to the Camera device, for User/pass and URL

So I received a Foscam FI8918W today. Have it working on my WiFi–went ahead and gave it a fixed IP, as that’s my preference for things that aren’t going to come and go. Access works fine. Set up a user as “operator” with the MCV recommended name and pw. Am ready to hurt myself by setting up my Vera1 (1.0.988) to access it. The discussion above speaks of the MIOS marketplace, but may be Vera2-specific. Where should I be getting the files for the Pannie PTZ and Shady’s mods for Vera1, UI2?

I know–I should move on. I have a Vera2 sitting on my desk. I am waiting for the software for UI4 and V2 to get more stable. I’m away from home enough that I can’t have the home automation getting twitchy on me!

Thanks in advance…

So in UI2, under Luup plugins, there’s a “generic PTZ camera plugin”. Is that what I should be using?

–Richard
So if I go look at the Luup Gallery in a browser, I see the PTZ Panasonic. Using UI2, when I go to “install LUUP plugins”, I can only access the first page of plugins–clicking on the link for the second page fails both if I am logged in locally, or through ra1.findvera.com. Locally, it fails silenty–I just get a blank page. “Remotely”, I get: “The requested URL /cgi-bin/cmh/proxy.sh was not found on this server.”. It looks like there was a complaint about this some time back. I am running 1.0.988. What version of UI2 is the latest/greatest/actually-works?

Or is there some other way I can get to the files for this Panasonic PTZ?

Sigh.

–Richard

You should be able to get the files here:

http://code.mios.com/trac/mios_panasonic-tv
You should be able to get the files here:

Alas, that’s the TV plug-in–user-community grown. I need the panasonic IPcam plug-in, that MCV wrote, has been around forever, is what makes the cameras they sell “plug-and-play” wit Vera. Etc. But thanks, Shady. I’m sure there’s some way to get it, but apparently not through the normal “let Vera install it” method, since the second page for installing plug-ins is broken in UI2.

So it is…sorry about that…I was in a hurry and obviously didn’t read it clearly.

If you can try the generic PTZ camera plugin, then I would try that. Then I think you’ll have to modify the button code yourselfin the “I_…something camera.xml” Implementation file, copying what you see in my uploaded Panasonic file.

Hopefully that will work out for you. I don’t think I can just upload all of the files and have you install them. I believe you’ll need need Vera to do the installation to start then you can modify files from there.

So I had installed the “generic IP camera”, which shows up, shows video, and has (at least) what appear to be non-functional pan and tilt controls. This installs as “S_PanTiltZoom1.xml”–at least, that’s what shows up in the Luup file listing on my box. There appears to be no “I_PanTiltZoom1.xml”–in fact, I seem to be pretty light on “I_” files altogether, but maybe that’s no surprise.

Could it really be as simple as renaming your file “I_PanTiltZoom1.xml” and uploading it? And probably kick-starting the Lua engine?
