New Vera 2 arrived. Help w/ hardware setup.

I’m no noob by any real means, but I can’t figure out the initial hardware setup of this thing. Here is what was in the box:

Vera 2 unit …check
2 x power transformers plugs …check
Super Rechargeable li-ion battery unit …check
Power cord extension? …check
Thank you for purchasing Vera sheet …check

I heard Vera 2 had a battery backup, but this lil battery unit only has 1 input/output, so if I lose power do I have to manually plug the Vera unit into this thing. Or is this thing only used when you are pairing with Zwave devices and the actual battery backup built into the Vera2? There was no documentation so it kinda leaves me guessing…

Thanks for any info.

It’s more of a battery pack to let you take the whole Vera2 to a Zwave device to pair it ‘in place’. So its just a battery pack, not a battery backup unit.

One thing I learned the hard way - the cable that goes from power to battery is not the same as the one that goes power to Vera2 - despite that adaptors being identical. 50/50 chance of getting it right but I assumed they were identical and spent some time banging my head trying to figure out why the Vera2 lights were not displaying correctly.

It’s only obvious once you figure it out. It would have been nice had there been a least something in the box that explained this.

Is there a doc. somewhere that explains how the battery pack works ?
The power plus has a green light, which is ON only if I turn ON the battery pack while charging.
Is it supposed to be like that, or is the battery pack supposed to be on the OFF position while charging ?

The battery pack should be ON when charging. Also, see this post.

JOD.

Exactly what I was looking for.
Thank you

???
I just got my Vera 2 for my vacation home. Can I start the set up at my primary residence and complete it when I get to my vacation home in a couple of weeks; or because they are two different networks I have to wait until I get to the final network to do the startup to see if everything works???

What I did with mine was to set it up at home and accessed it locally behind the firewall on my home network. I set up the devices I wanted to control to make sure they work ok. Then I took it all up to my vacation home and set it up the same way. At the end I set up an account at cp.mios.com and called my son who was not with me to see if he could access my controller from outside the firewall at my vacation home. It worked the first time…

So you waited until you got to your vacation home network before setting up your account. Were you able to set all zwave devices without an account? Are you using UI4?

I did wait but I’m not sure a really had to. I was just being cautious. I only had a couple of devices, a Trane thermostat and a temperature sensor so this was a relatively simple setup. I was able to test the Trane at home by simply connecting it up to a 24vac supply (I didn’t connect up the controls to the furnace). I have not been able to pair up the temp sensor but that is a different issue so I am having it exchanged.

I don’t think you need the account to set up your devices, only you access your Vera from outside the firewall.

I am using UI4 F/W 1.1.047.

Thanks for the info. I am going home after work to set up -
1- Schlage LiNK Deadbolt
1- Wayne Dalton WDTC-20
3- IP Cameras (1-Linksys, 2-Foscam)
2- Intermatic screw-in light controllers
3- Hawking window sensors
2- Fortrezz water sensors

Hopefully this saves alot of time, and even more important, they all connect.

I know this is an old topic… but, have you tried or any one else to use the vera 2 with the battery pack as a backup unit? …I mean, in order to keep the vera 2 in touch with the battery powered nodes like sensors i.e ???

thanks guys

There’s an alternate battery from the same manufacturer that would enable it to be used as a backup if the power went down. See this thread:
