New light fixture giving me trouble

I installed this large ceiling light that has many LED lights built into it, it is super bright and needs to be on a dimmer.

I used a Cooper rf9540 (specifically led compatible) like I have done with other LEDs but in this case it completely freaks out the light fixture, the lights are unstable at almost all dimmer range settings, there is a very, very narrow band that works and if I dim it at all, it destabilizes LEDs elsewhere in the house on the same circuit.

Any thoughts on a dimmer that might work? Don’t need a three way in this case.

Below is what the light fixture instructions says…
What is a forward phase dimmer is that like a mlv or elv dimmer? That I should be using instead?

The fixture is designed to dim with a standard Triac forward phase dimmer. Dimming levels will vary by dimmer.
Below is a list of recommended dimmers:
Lutron MACL-153M Lutron DVL-153P Lutron SCL-153P Leviton IPL06-10Z Leviton 6674-POW
Due to inrush current wattage should not exceed 150 watts of product for a 600 watt dimmer.

Warning! This fixture is supplied with an installed LED driver. These fixtures are dimmable using standard triac dimmer. For best operation we recommend using Lutron CL DimmerS.

You can learn about forward(leading edge) and reverse(trailing edge) phase cut dimmers here.

All of the Electronic Low Voltage(ELV) dimmers that I know of are trailing edge(reverse) phase cut and will not work for your application.

Most Magnetic Low Voltage(MLV) dimmers are, so far as I know, forward(leading edge) phase cut. For this reason, I think that the Leviton VRMX1-1LZ 1000W Vizia RF ZWave Universal Magnetic Low Voltage Dimmer or the Leviton DZMX1-1LZ Decora Z-Wave Controls Scene Capable Universal Dimmer(lacks Instant Status) should work for your application. However, I would recommend contacting Leviton and asking them to be sure.

Yes, that is what I suspected, it was the word Triac, that was throwing me off. I will give a MLV version a shot and see how it goes.

Most z-wave dimmers are leading edge I believe. Qubino are advertising trailing edge.

Anyways if all else fails maybe you could rewire the lamp with new drivers?

It is a huge ceiling fixture (5’ diameter) and pricey with tons of LEDs in it, I had to have it professionally installed because of the size/awkwardness of the thing… no way am I pulling it down and trying to mess with the internals  Worse comes to worse I will just put a non-z-wave dimmer in there. I only use the z-wave to ensure it is turned off at night for this particular application.

I know the z-wave dimmer I have in there isn’t bad because it was working with the old light fixture, but I am going to try one of the non-z-wave dimmers they recommend as I happen to have a few Luton CL dimmers arround to test with. Maybe it is wired wrong or there is something wrong with the fixture itself.
