I am a new Vara 3 owner. I have two units that I am going to configure on my existing home network. My home network has a Cisco E3000 router. My network is setup as 10.0.20.xxx with the gateway router being at 10.0.20.1. I already have three additional Cisco Access Points since my house is pretty big. Everything is working fine. I also have an existing ZWAVE network that is working. I am using a THINKSTICK and ZWAVE COMMANDER so I can turn my nodes on and off. Everything is working fine so far. Both of the VERA 3’s report the following:
You are running the latest version: 1.5.254
Here are my questions:
I cannot get my two Vera 3’s to work as access points. I do NOT want them to act as routers. Just additional access points. One is set up at 10.0.20.7 and the other is set up as 10.0.20.8 I have DHCP turned off on both of them as my E3000 router is the DHCP server. My problem is that I cannot connect through either VERA. I can see their SSID’s but I cannot connect. So as of now, I have to disable the WiFi service on them. Any ideas? I would like to use that capability as long as it is there.
If I already have a working ZWAVE network, do I have to walk wound with my THNKSTICK and remove all my nodes before I start a new ZWAVE network with my Vera 3’s?
Is it possible to run BOTH ZWAVE networks? Is there a way to demote my THINKSTICK to a secondary controller and make the VERA 3’s the primary?
Thank you very much for any assistance.
Oh, a little feedback first:
The web interface on these units is somewhat buggy. If you try to use Windows Internet Explorer, you cannot select the Radio Buttons to make SETUP changes. The internal web server just ignores use mouse clicks. If you use SAFARI then there is no problem.

You can exclude the devices via Vera. Choose the option that is easiest for you. But they must be excluded before including into Vera.
Vera 3 out of the box runs Zwave version 3.20, which is not able to have secondary controllers. Zwave 2.78 can have secondary controllers.
Internet Explorer is not recommend for accessing Vera’s web interface. It causes a lot of issues. Firefox, Chrome, or Safari is recommend.
If your software supports is, you could do a controller shift to transfer the network from the ThinkStick to Vera and have Vera assume the primary role and the ThinkStick secondary.
Thank you. Since the ACCESS POINT function is not currently functional, should I be buying VeraLite’s as additional units?
Case in point. I have a barn about 600-feet from my house. I get Internet down to it with a couple of Cisco Wireless-N bridges. I also have a working access point down there too. I’m also going to have maybe a half-dozen ZWave devices down there.
Is VeraLite the right product for that application? I want to make sure they can all run the same UI5 interface. I don’t mind buying (or selling) Vera3’s if that will make a more consistent experience.
Has the access point been enabled for Vera 3 yet? So the instructions that came with my new Vera 3 that discuss this are incorrect?[/quote]
Did you ever get a response from MCV on this? After reading on this forum that access point mode is supported on Vera 3 now I purchased one only to find it doesn’t work, contrary to the printed instructions (if you can call the single sheet of paper instructions) that came with it.
If it doesn’t support access point mode it’s going back to MCV as useless.
I am really hoping they get this soon since I have to continually move my Vera 3 to reconfigure devices on the edges of my system. I am going to order more devices to see if this helps.
