New GE 12724 LED/CFL Dimmer at Lowes $40

Just went to Lowes and was surprised to find something new in the Iris section since my last visit two days ago. A new dimmer for $39.96 that supports regular, LED and CFL lighting.

It has the neutral connection requirement unlike the 45639 that Lowes claims on their website works with ceiling fans http://www.lowes.com/pd_339578-1353-45639_0__?productId=3707738&Ntt=iris+dimmer&pl=1&currentURL=%3FNtt%3Diris%2Bdimmer&facetInfo=

The packaging is very neat and tidy in a small box instead a blister pack. On the side of the box it lists several systems that it is compatible with in addition to Iris, such as ADT Pulse, SmartThings, and yes even Vera.

Inside there were no instructions at all! It does include the almond rocker replacement. And also very handy, they’ve included a short neutral jumper wire, stranded but the ends dipped in solder.

I haven’t hooked it up yet, so more details to follow.

I’m an idiot, the instructions were stuck in the underside of the box cover. On the back of the module I found zw3005. Maybe this has been around for a while? Here a good picture from an Ebay auction: GE Z-Wave Plus Smart Control Dimmer Switch for sale online | eBay

This is GE/Jasco’s new line of dimmers that are LED compatible (neutral required). They were announced last year and are just starting to hit retail channel distribution.

I just stopped by a Lowe’s at lunch, and they did not have any of these in stock, only the older no-neutral dimmers. However, I bought 10 of these online last month from Home Controls, and have most of them already installed. I have since decided I need two more, so it will be nice if Lowe’s starts stocking them…

(Edit - I actually bought the Jasco branded JA45712, but I think they are the exact same model and have a GE logo on the actual switch…)

You know if you got to the lowes website and enter your zip code it will tell you quanity and such from all the stores around you.

Don’t forget to order online and pickup in store. Use online coupons 10% off or even better 10.00 off 50.00 purchase. Google to find them.

Actually the 45712 are just branded Jasco not GE, I was wrong. They are packaged for installers, not retail. BTW, the 45712s have programmable ramp levels and timing. Did the Lowe’s sold 456XX dimmers have that and I missed it? I am going to play around with reducing the timing…

And Lowes has 10% or more coupons.

What’s the minimum load? I downloaded the manual from jasco but the text is too small to read on my phone.

AFAIK, neutral wire dimmers don’t have a minimum load problem. I’m dimming several circuits with Cooper dimmers that have one or two LED bulbs on them that only draw a few watts.

Awesome, might have to check these out then. There’s a light in the kitchen I want to dim/automate but it only had 1 bulb. Probably can’t dim too low since it’s only one bulb huh?

Like I said, with a neutral wire dimmer specifically made for LEDs, there is no minimum load. Minimum load issues were only for 2-wire (non-neutral) dimmers. How far and how linearly you can dim the bulb is purely dependent on the characteristics of the bulb, some are designed better than others. There are some rare instance where certain dimmers don’t play well with certain bulbs, but that is mostly a past issue. Here’s an example of the wide variety of dimmers that Cree (Home Depot) LED bulbs work with, they even list the minimum bulb load per circuit. As you can see, the majority of dimmers only need 1 bulb to dim properly.

Awesome, thanks for all the info.

What do i choose in Vera to add the GE 12724? It is the same as Jasco, but which one? I expect it to be “In Wall Dimmer”, but none of them are Jasco. In the interface I went to “dimmers and Lights” and then searched for “In Wall Dimmer”. Evolve EV-LRM15, Linear WD1000Z-1 or Linear WD500Z-1. There is also dimmable lamp modules, but i would think that isn’t a hard wired device like the GE 12724 that i have.

Also, how do i remove my ‘guesses’ that don’t work from the console?

Sorry, i’m totally new. First day! Got both of my Schlage locks to work.

The list is small and not needed. Just use Generic Z-wave device for all your installs.

Guesse? You mean devices, you click on the device and scroll to the bottom. In the right corner remove device.
