This morning my Z-Wave commands did not run. The dongle’s light was off and resetting the dongle (not Vera) helped. As this was the second time within one day and the fifth within the last days I’m wondering if we got a new problem here.
I’m trying to downgrade to UI2 from UI3 and now my dongle light is out and I can’t restore Vera. It did successfully downgrade though and I can double click to reset, but it will not restore either with or without the checkbox for the dongle restore.
I submitted a ticket.
Did you try testing the Z-Stick in another device other then Vera to see if it is the dongle or Vera?
Look at the logs, I notice my Vera either reboots itself (dongle light goes out) all the time or something is going on, if you happen to try and trigger a scene at this time you get nothing. In a few seconds the dongle light comes back on.
Check the logs and look at the event #'s, if they are low #'s your Vera rebooted itself or something similar that clears the log out.
MCV, any comments?
I have been complaining of this problem for 2 months with UI3!

My dongle light goes out for extended periods and no commands are run until the dongle light comes back on.
I got a new dongle from Aeon labs to try and fix this, it is NOT a dongle problem… the problem is with vera.
I’m so glad I am not the only one with this problem. Please fix MCV!
My vera/dongle isnt responding right now… submitted trouble ticket.
My dongle went black, an I was unable to get it to respond for the Aeon firmware tool too. So I hit the button on the Dongle with a paperclip, and then I was able to flash it with the Aeon tool. I still couldn’t get my setup to restore from back-up, so I am rebuilding it in UI2. The stick is now up-to-date and the LED doesn’t “flash”.
My devices were still in the stick, but rooms/scenes and everything was reset.
…uhhh…this hurts…
I’m wondering why this comes weeks after upgrading to UI3.
OK, part of my problem was that I was trying to restore a UI3 backup into UI2, stupid me, but I don’t think that is related to my dongle going “lights out”.
Hopefully, now that I have upgraded it (so the LED stops flashing), I won’t have any issues.
I’m still noticing some operational delays that I think migrated from UI3 to UI2 via keeping my devices on the dongle (not resetting it and re-adding). Maybe someone with more knowledge could comment if this is possible, because this is what it seems like.

This exactly describes the problem I see…
hummm, I wonder if this would explain why randomly and occasionally a scene just doesn’t run then returns to normal operation
MCV!?!?!
Hi,
Please send us a trouble ticket when you see the freezing. I cannot see any freeze in the previous sent logs.
That is correct. But the problem is there. Are there things Vera does not log? E.G. the dongle?
-
At 11:32:30am EST I attempted to turn on my “OF Lamp” light.
-
It DID NOT come on.
-
I ran downstairs to check the dongle, the dongle light was OFF! (i.e. locked up or vera rebooting?)
-
At 11:35:30am EST the “OF Lamp” icon in UI3 went from “blue” to “red” saying “Send: No Responce Frame”
-
At 11:36:50 EST I attempted to turn “OF Lamp” on again.
-
It came ON!
-
I ran downstairs again and the dongle light is now “ON”!
The dongle either locked up or vera rebooted during this time for some unknown reason! Please check the logs! Just submitted trouble ticket @ 11:38am EST

myhomeserver,
Are you still having this same issue as i am? If so, what is your network configuration? What kind of zwave devices do you have? What vera and dongle firmware are you running? How long has it been happening? I am trying to find out what is causing us to have this problem…
MCV is having trouble isolating the problem from my logs and I would like to see if something is common between our setups that might be causing this…
Hey there, I still have issues where I notice the dongle off for a second or two, and a few times I’ve noticed that when it fails to fire a scene based on motion, I look up at my Vera on the wall near the ceiling and the dongle light was off and came back on shortly
I have lots of devices, but it doesnt seem to be a device issue, something with the dongle or Vera rebooting, donno. I try looking at the logs but it seems that no matter how many lines I want to view, Its always short, which probably means it’s rebooted.
Not sure, If you or MCV tell me what to look for I can send some logs, etc. I just dont always want to run to my PC and check when it misfires. It’s a rarity, but if you use Vera for critical apps like heating, cooling, waking your ass up for work, etc, this could really suck. I use it to turn on some lights with a motion detector when its dark. it also turns on my porch lights at sunrise and sunset, and tracks all my 8 cams, takes snapshots on door, window events. Fairly basic stuff, so I really dont know what to do to help.
Anyone else having their dongle light go OFF?
Hi all,
In some cases, it’s not a dongle problem, but more a device(s) one. They can jam the z-wave network and causing to respond very slow or not at all in some cases. We have special flags in the logs to identify if it’s the dongle or anything else. Just today, when I got to BOSSTON’s ticket, I saw the problem in the logs and replied to him what to do next.
We are willing to replace and we did for each of our customers with dongle problems. But we had also customers blaming the dongle, when, in fact, some device was messed up.
All logs are analyzed before stating that there is indeed a dongle problem, we don’t just “believe” customers when they say the dongle has problems. And this is not because we don’t want to help, but the fact is, if there is a defective device, the next dongle we send, will act the same and there’s no point in replacing a good dongle.
Please, all of you who have problems and think they are caused by the dongle, enable Verbose Logging from Advanced > Logs and send a ticket when you notice the unresponsive z-wave network (preferably, without unplugging the dongle).
Thanks!
I think we are blaming the dongle since we don’t know any better, and since it’s light goes out, it seems that something is going wrong elsewhere other than devices…but you guys know better than we would
I’ll enable verbose logging and send in a ticket when I see this happen again
thanks MCV!
