NevoConnect NC-50 with Vera2 UI4

I setup Vera2 UI4 as primary, added 35-40 Leviton switches, dimmers, plugs and a scene controller. All went well until I attempted to included a NevoConnect NC-50. The moment the NC-50 includes, the Zwave light turns off and stays off (left it on overnight). If I turn off the NC-50 and power cycle Vera, a scene controller shows under devices. Turn on NC-50, Zwave light off. All I can do is manually delete the scene controller node when the NC-50 is powered off. I have two NC-50, with the latest firmware that produce the same result.

Here are some things I’ve tried, all which kill Vera’s Zwave light until the NC-50 is off and Vera has been power cycled.

  1. Vera primary, add all devices 1st, then NC-50
  2. Reset Zwave, factory default, include NC-50 only
  3. UI3, NC-50 only
  4. Nevo S70 primary, include NC-50 to S70, include Vera as secondary. Optimize from S70.

I’ve seen posts stating some of you have NC-50’s working . Any help is greatly appreciated, I’m at a loss.

I just rebuilt my network yesterday including my S70 and NC50. Have you tried excluding the nc50’s before reincludkng them? You can exclude them using the S70 - reset zwave settings on the s70, go into ecosystem settings, configure ad hit remove node - then press the button on the nc50. You can also try resetting them - it’s been a while since I’ve done it, but I believe it involve holding the reset button while plugging it back in… I believe its in the manual.
Finally, have you tried just setting up the s70 and nc50’s as just one small network with the s70 as your primary?

The order I used is as follows:

  1. Vera primary
  2. Add all switches, thermostats, locks, etc
  3. Add the Nc50
  4. Add the s70
  5. Link the nc50 and other devices on s70

I excluded every device from Vera originally, reset zwave and factory default. Factory reset nc50’s (hold bottom reset, plug in, hold 10 seconds, blue dome flashes), and reset zwave on S70’s. Basically, completely started over.

For testing puposes, I tried a default config Vera2 UI4 and 1 nc50. As soon as I pair the nc-50 to Vera, the zwave light turns off and Vera has a staus of server busy (forever).

Also, after a full factory reset on everything I setup one S70 and one nc50 (S70 as primary). Once I attempt to pair Vera (as secondary), Vera shows a staus of “downloading…”, then the zwave light turns off, server busy (forever). I can power cycle Vera (with the nc50 on) and Vera will never start zwave, server busy…Turn of power on nc50 and Vera will start zwave. Again, I have two nc50’s, which I can confirm are good working units with the latest firmware.

Are you using Vera1 or Vera2? What firmware are you using? When you include nc50 to Vera, how long does it take Vera to add nc50 and start zwave services?

I have had my NC50 and S70 working on vera 1 on fw versions 1.0979, 992, 1047, and 1062 and vera 2 on 1062.

Were you able to get the NC50(s) and the S70 working separate from Vera. The reason I ask is just to make sure you didn’t end up with (2) bad NC50’s. I’ve heard bad things about buying these on Ebay.

I’ve tried 1.0.996, 1.1.329 and 1.1.1047. All respond the same, with the exception of 1.0.996, which the z-wave light turns on for 30 seconds, off for 30 seconds.

I have two nc50’s and two s70’s, all of which work when Vera is out of the equation. All of my Nevo equipment was purchased from an authorized dealer, although they obviously aren’t going to support Vera. I wouldn’t think ebay would be a good buyers market for Nevo products considering the price vs no warranty.

I’m beginning to ponder the idea that something is wrong with this Vera unit seeing as you haven’t had any issues including your nc50’s.

That’s what I was wondering… do you have any other controllers on your network?

And, oh hey, if you haven’t read my other posts elsewhere, when I add my NC50, 5 child devices are automagically added named 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5.

Well, currently my network isn’t configured at all. I do have one s70/nc50 set back up in the theater room so my daughter can watch movies. I do have ThinkEssentials Pro and a Thinkstick (which I never use). Are you suggesting I try to pair another controller besides the Nevo’s and see the results?

I have seen your other posts regarding the the nc50 and the child devices. At this point I’d be overjoyed to have child devices. If I power off an nc50 while attempting to include it to Vera," _scene controller" appears under devices. Is that how yours is detected? Of course, as soon as the nc50 is powered back on Vera essentially dies.

I suspect a hardware issue with Vera, as opposed to a firmware problem seeing as you had your working in 1047. I submitted a support ticket to MCV, although I haven’t had a reply to date. Suggestions?

Yes, I would load the controlthink software, go to settings and select join or recover another network to include it in Vera’s network. If Vera does the same thing, I’d say the problem is your Vera. The thinkstick should add fine, as I have had mine on my network through all of the above versions.
And yes, it appears as _scene controller when I add to Vera. Both the s70 and the nc50 do.

Okay, here’s what I tried and the results. In between each try I reset all zwave devices to factory defaults.

  1. Controlthink w/thinkstick as primary, included nc50 w/success.
  2. Controlthink w/thinkstick join Vera w/success
  3. Controlthink w/thinkstcik as primary, included nc50 w/success. Joined Vera as secondary. Vera’s Zwave light turns off and essentially dies. Exclude nc50 from thinkstick and powercycle Vera. Vera shows thinkstick “transmit was ok” on click, and nc50 “device was unable to configure” (obvious since it was previously excluded from thinkstick).

So, the nc50’s will include and exclude with two different s70’s and a thinkstick all day long, and immediately Vera chokes on them. And Vera will include and exclude the thinkstick. Also, I installed Homeseer Pro trial (using the thinkstick), devices, thermostat, nc50, s70 all include and work just as expected. Same failing result with Vera.

Wow, that is so strange. I don’t know what else to try - it seems your Vera just doesn’t like nc50’s. It’s been a while since I’ve loaded NSP - I forget if there’s a mean to check/upgrade the firmware on the NC50. Other than that, I don’t know what else it could be.

Do you have gabs in your Z-Wave Node IDs?

I tried a Q50 shortly.

I had a lot of problems with it, until I resat Veras Z-Wave network and build it ones again, so there were no gabs.

Nevo seems to be very sensetive about Z-wave network structure.

Are you asking if Vera skipped node numbers when including his devices? As much as I hate it, it does - when I rebuilt/upgraded over the weekend, it skipped 3 or 4 individual node numbers. This shouldn’t be a problem as when you remove/exclude a node you are left with a gap. Your remotes should still work.

The only suggestion I can think of is that he verify he has the latest firmware on the nevo stuff.

Yes exactly.

It shouldn’t be a problem agree. But it was a big problem, when i tested Q50.

(I have more gabs than most. I test devices.)

I updated the nc50’s a few day ago in NSP3, by connecting via USB. I did notice node skips in Vera, although at this point Vera is primary, with a clean reset network. I’m at a loss, and without the nc50 in the network Vera is basically useless. I’d be happy to see Vera and 1 nc50 work, although I’ve tried practically every firmware under the sun, reset the network all the way around and can get everything to work on any other controller I throw at it, except for Vera.

Does anyone have any feedback on submitting tickets to MCV? Amount of time to respond, etc. I submitted one on 9/26 and received a standard notification that it was received…complete silence to date.

I have exactly the same problem described by cdickerson1231.

Anyone have any advice on how to include a Nevo NC-50 without bringing Vera to its knees ?

@dulstone
I never resolved my issue with the NC-50’s. I was further frusterated by MCV lack of support. At the end of it all I switched to Homeseer Pro and never looked back. I still have my Vera, nicely packed in its original box. If you do find a solution I’d be interested in the details. Good Luck!
