Is this maintained by MCV now, or is there a totally new plugin from MCV? Just wondering which plugin people are using. I see nest is now offering home/away sensing via your phone. Would love to see this be able to feed into vera!
Lol it’s geofencing. So is the nest going to control the vera or the vera control the nest?
Yeah, I get that. I just want an easy geofencing solution that works. Or at least another one that I can feed into my home/away multiswitch to increase the accuracy.
There is alot of nice solutions for geofencing on Androids are you on an Apple device?
Is nest even going to work with multiple people?
I just read this artical where they don;t seem to think geofencing is very good.
Is anyone home?To guess if you?re home, other products use a single phone?s location to define a virtual barrier, or geofencing. Then they track your phone to determine when you cross that barrier. But that can lead to mistakes. Geofencing isn?t very precise, so a product might think you?re home when you?re really a couple blocks away. Plus, we forget our phones. They break or get stolen. Their batteries die. And what if a roommate, guest or babysitter is still at home? Geofencing alone can get it wrong ? turn the lights off when someone?s home. Or run the heat when no one is.
So Nest takes a more thoughtful approach, using more information to get it right. Home/Away Assist uses learning algorithms and activity sensors built into Nest products ? the same things the Nest Learning Thermostat has been using for four years to help save energy. And Home/Away Assist also uses your phone?s location to do an even better job of telling if anyone?s home.
Then I read this.
If you're a Nest owner, you've probably experienced the company's thermostat flipping itself to Away mode while you were still home. Most likely, that's because someone didn't walk past the motion sensor on the tech in a timely fashion. Thankfully, Nest announced two new features that will improve the the gadgets' ability to tell when someone's home. First, there's a new Home/Away Assist that uses your phone's location in addition to the motion sensors and software algorithms inside the household gear.
Where is seems like they just added Geofencing which they were against and thought wasn’t practical before.
Anyhow I still think the cart should go behind the horse. My home and away needs to know I’m home before I pull in the driveway to not send unwanted motion notifications and disarm the house alarm and unlocks doors. If nest if the best solution at this VERA really needs to take notes.
