I need to set it up in a location where Internet access will not be available. This is at a junior rowing club boathouse in a State Park. The device will initially be controlling two zwave smart locks for access control.
I currently have the box at my home where there is Internet access but the locks are installed at the boathouse.
What is the best way to setup the controller? All the directions I have seen suggest that Internet access is available at the same location.
Any pointers to documentation on setting up where Internet is not available at the install location?
I do hope this can work. I already bought and returned a SmarThings hub because that is 100% not usable without Internet access.
You can use a Vera without internet access by connecting directly from a computer on the local area network(LAN) to the IP address of the Vera.
However, it sounds as though there may not even be a LAN at your intended location. This will be a problem for Vera as it needs, at least, an external time source to allow for time/schedule based activity. Vera has no internal clock.
From the limited information that you have provided so far, I do not understand your need for a disconnected/isolated home automation(HA) controller, like Vera. What do you wish for the HA controller to do that the locks cannot provide as stand alone devices? If you provide a more detailed description of your usage requirements, someone may be able to suggest a better solution to suit your needs.
