MCV… are yous guys still working on the Sigma 8634 NAS?
Hello,
vera is such a promising product! I saw a reference on the linuxmce forum.
It looks like vera has much of the home automation & security functionality of linuxmce - is that accurate?
And then I saw http://wiki.micasaverde.com/index.php/Tech_Info
which describes an upcoming NAS / DMA solution that will work with vera!
Is that coming quickly now that the new firmware is out?
much thanks,
joseph
That’s because the guy’s at MCV started with a MCE type project.
zmistro,
thank you. I heard the mcv folks came from plutohome. I ran pluto and currently use it’s mostly open fork, LinuxMCE. And I use OpenWRT so naturally, i’m intrigued by MCV!
The mcv wiki Tech_Info page says that mcv is “also developing a lightweight media plugin + media catalog + rip/identify software suite that runs inside a low-cost NAS device, and a front-end that runs on the Sigma 8634-based DMA’s”. And that it will be a comparable media solution to LinuxMCE, “but at a fraction of the cost with a tiny amount of energy consumption”.
I’m considering updating my Linux MCE core and so I was wondering about the status of the mcv medial capabilities described in the mcv wiki.

The media plans have been scrapped. We don’t want to spread ourselves too thin. We’d decided it’s better to make just a control product and make it work well, rather than trying to bite off too much. The other reason is that there are lots of good media devices on the market already, which the new Luup version will be able to seamlessly control because it’s a UPnP control point. Therefore, now that we migrated to Luup, there’s no real reason for us to do our own media box. You can just use anybody’s UPNP dma and let Vera do the control for you.
