My New Walk Gate Lock

Hello guys. This is my new install of a gate lock for my walk gate. I am sure this can be cleaned up some, but maybe this will help others.

Here is what I have.

Two (2) Linear Actuators purchased from AliExpress for $48 each, now $51.50

Two (2) GE 45603 Appliance modules

Two (2) TE Connectivity 120 VAC control relays 10 Amp (3 form C contacts) for $14.74 each

Two (2) TE Connectivity Relay bases for $6.83 each

One (1) Enclosure CableGuard CG-1500 Coax Demarcation Enclosure Outdoor Waterproof Weatherproof Cable High Impact Thermoplastic 9.75"x9.75"x4.5" (inner dimensions) I bought mine from eBay, but it is no longer available from that seller for $26 including shipping.

One (1) 12VDC Switching Power Supply 10 Amp for $14.39 on eBay
http://www.ebay.com/itm/350730866810?_trksid=p2059210.m2749.l2649&var=620098011432&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT#ht_1854wt_1124

The relay power (120VAC) is wired through normally closed (NC) contacts on the opposite relay to ensure both relays cannot be powered at the same time. This is due to the fact the Linear Actuator (LA) reverses polarity from in to out and if both relays are accidently energized at the same time, you would have both + and - DC on at the same time(but only from a split second until the power supply tripped out).
The LA has limit switches, which will stop travel. I have also added a 10 sec delay to the scene to turn off the z wave module and therefore the relay as well, so everything is back in a normal state for the next operation. If the LA is already at the out travel and you energize the out relay, the limit switches will not let it travel, so no harm, no foul.

I am including pictures and videos and an electrical drawing.

looked at your move thought that was cool, now you need to pipe in the wire to make it look more finnised

Yeah, This was just quick work to get it happening

how much to buy the prewired set up from you? (single deadbolt)

@alienz
I appreciate the thought, but I didn’t want to get into selling these and any warranty that would go with it. Straight cost for 1 LA setup parts would be about $275 and 2 LA setup parts would only add a second actuator @ $52 for a total of $327. Parts not stated in the posts are wire, extension cords, plug ends, Velcro. Labor time would make this not cost effective. I did this one for me and the cost was high, but it was what I wanted. It took me almost a month to order and receive parts and then assemble/wire it and then install it.

I took time and posted here to help others out with what I did. I hope you understand why I do not what to sell these.

thanks. I will make some time

It would be awesome if these were mass manufactured though.

One thing to think about…the bases can be “touchy”. I was thinking about just soldering the wires to the relay to make sure of a good connection.

yeah I was wondering about that… is the base really needed?

I am a real newbe and have not pulled the trigger to put in a system because I have not been able to find a lock for my garden gate which controls access to my front door. I have contacted many of the manufacturers of front door locks, but they all say their units would not handle the elements on a garden gate This looks like just what I need. Can you give me some info on how you are controlling this? My ideal scenario would be to be able to lock/unlock with my iPhone or with a keypad and be able to grant access unique codes to the keypad. I would also like to be able to see if the gate was locked or unlocked
Thanks

Wow, this is exactly what we’ve been looking for. Another project to add to the vera list–thanks!

Right now, I only have a scene set up as Open Gate and another scene set up as Close Gate. I still have a mechanical latch on the gate that needs to be closed. (you could always use a door sensor to make sure the gate is closed before allowing the LA to operate). I have the scenes programmed to operate from Intermatic HA-07 and HA-09 hand held remotes as well as being able to use HomeWave on my smart phone and iPad.

Here is a link to a video about the Poly-Pad. It looks promising.

As far as lock feedback, I have not thought about that yet. I will think on this and get back to you on it.

Another option for the keypad is this.

This is powered with 12 VDC which can be supplied straight from the PS I already have installed. It has three (3) output contacts. Main to Open Gate and Aux to close gate. It has a lot of features that would be useful.

It has a relay outputs which you can use to trigger two (2) Schlage Door Sensor RS100HC (it has input contacts). One for Open scene and one for close scene.

The keypad will actuate output contacts and send signal to motion sensor (mounted inside enclosure) which would send Vera a motion trip and operate a scene.

Here is another keypad

Maybe PLEG would be able to give information on the last operation of the gate?
Richard would be the best person to ask about that. He is very knowledgeable and he did design PLEG.

Here is a LA with position feedback
