My heating needs: beyond the scope?

I have a setup very different from most of you, I think! I have parts of my house where I need pretty consistent heat and humidity controls, and this post really seems to fit: http://forum.micasaverde.com/index.php/topic,8510.msg112425.html#msg112425

BUT my bedroom is very different. I use a space heater. In a perfect world, I would be able to have the heat on and off automatically based on desired temperatures, but that idea temperature would be different, say middle of the day, or early evening, or the wee hours, when we’re asleep. It seems I can have a desired on/off temperature around the clock, or setup at a specific day and time, but not ranges of times.

I currently use this device: It’s a chore to program and it’s not backlit, but it has the convenience of simplicity: walk over to it and press the up and down button to temporarily override the temperature, which then reverts at the next scheduled temperature change. The space heater is in “always on” mode, but the device shuts the power off to the heater when it gets too warm.

PLUS I would need to manually adjust it whenever I’m uncomfortable. This would require something like homewave, where I could turn a slider up and down to consistently monitor and adjust the temp.

I currently have a spare Evolve On/Off Outlet switch and an ST814 sensor. Am I right in thinking this is not going to work, and work reliably?

Should I just stick with my good old Lux Win100 for space heater control?

To get good reliability, it would be best to use a Z-Wave thermostat directly associated with the power switch. I use a Horstmann HRT4-ZW (Secure SRT321) associated to a Fibaro FGS211 3kW relay module.

The thermostat set-point can be set via Z-Wave and also with a manual dial for temporary overrides. I use PLEG to calculate the required set-point based on time-of-day, home/away and other factors. Whenever the calculated set-point changes, PLEG sends it to the thermostat.

Is this a Europe-only product?

Can I do this with PLEG?

You can do almost anything with PLEG. It runs my heating just fine. I see you are already discussing this in another thread so perhaps you should keep all your questions in one place?

I don’t know if Horstmann/Secure have US versions. There are certainly other Z-Wave thermostats available there.

Hi. indeed. I’m trying to grok your excellent pdf, in fact. I posted in this thread before I made my way over there.
