Just curious if anyone who has had trouble with the Nest thermostat not being in a high traffic area had attempted to use a motion sensor to send a signal to the Nest via it’s API.
Just a thought I had, since my Nest is not in a high traffic area, and I had to turn off the auto-away feature.
There is a nest plug in already that creates a home/away switch you could toggle with a motion sensor. The Nest API is a bit limited compared to the current plug.
Alternatively, the Nest protect does the same thing natively, but it is a bit more expensive.
I’ll have to see about toggling the away button yo “home” (or whatever it is) when the motion sensor is tripped. Maybe then I can use the auto-away.
Not interested in the Protect, as I don’t want to replace all my wired smoke detectors with Protects. Plus the Protect won’t interface with my DSC alarm system.
Thanks for the suggestion, though!
