MonoPrice 4X4 HDMI Switch and Plugin... how does that work exactly?

I was paroosing the apps section of Vera 3 today when I came across this monoprice plugin for the very same 4X4 HDMI Switch I use for my Audio Video Setup. I have absolutely no experience with plugins and the like so I was wondering if anyone could take a few minutes and help me understand how This switch, or any other non-zwave device for that matter would be detected by Vera in order for it to use a plugin such as this one to control it.

I’ve been using vera for a while, but so far only with simple switches and door locks. I’m just starting to get into finding new and creative ways to control non-zwave devices with Vera such as blinds and home electronics but I have yet to learn the basic principals regarding just how these devices are connected to Vera.

TIA.

You’ll find a little more detail about the plugin here:

It’s intended to be used in Scenes, and will create 4x “child” devices, one for each HDMI input, and each of those expose 4 Output-selection methods. With appropriate scene scripting of these, you can switch any of the inputs to the outputs.

You’ll need to use the “Advanced Scene” option, instead of the [attempt at a] GUI scene builder to set these up as part of your scenes.

@strangely owns one of these, and will probably chime in with more details (or, nudge-nudge, update the Wiki with some more screen caps  )

I use my primarily for control via the SQ remote app since I have all my AV equipment in a closet, and it allows me to select sources from my iPhone or iPad via some basic scenes (using the advanced scene control editor that @guessed mentioned)

You can also script things like scenes to occur either automatically (macro style) in combination with lights or other stuff and an example would be a “watch movie” scene that turns on a blue ray player, turns on a TV, selects the correct source and input and dims lights etc.

You can also get inventive and have it switch automatically via triggers in combination with the ping sensor so that if it detects a TV or PC is on, selects the correct source and input again, or perhaps if a certain light or appliance is switched on.

I also have my set with some scenes and controlled via a Zwave scene controller that powers up my PC (via Wake on LAN plugin, and then switches inputs… Handy for when you don’t to power up a phone!

Thanks for the info, this sound very promising. Is there a way to enable wireless communication over z-wave as my switch is not located in an area which could be wired to the Vera via serial to usb. Perhaps someone makes a serial to Zwave adapter of sorts?

If you can get a standard RS-232 to WiFi adapter, then that’ll work. Be aware that these can be particularly hard to configure, depending upon the brand/model, so you’ll want to do some homework before purchasing.

There is a thread on the model that I use, but it requires very advanced configuration knowledge, and a lot of patience, to configure it. There are a number of commercial models that are easier to setup (but, of course, cost more)

If you have Cabled Ethernet in the neighborhood, then you can use a WIZnet SR110. It’s a RS-232 to Ethernet adapter, and has a configuration tool which makes life easier (and, technically, you can string this off of a WiFi Bridge also)

There is a company selling refurbished 4x4 Monoprice switches today for $50. Fair warning: they have a less than stellar reputation for customer service. I bought a harmony remote from them before and it took a while but it showed up and was in acceptable condition.

At any rate, I’ve been thinking about one of these switches for a while so I took the bait. We will see if it shows up broken or at all!

I chanced it and bought a spare one

Since I’m not permitted to direct message with my account, I have to revive this thread. I’m trying to find the plugin files for the monoprice matrix plugin and am hoping one of you (@strangely?) can help me. I don’t see it on the MiOS list anymore. Foes anyine know where I might find it? Thanks for any info you can provide!

It looks like @guessed may have removed it, due to an ongoing issue with the MiOS platforms stability. I have a copy, but I’m afraid I cant send it without his permission.

How can we get a copy of the monoprice plug in?

I have this same monoprice hdmi matrix with RS-232 and would also like a copy of this plugin.

Hello again! Just wondering if anyone is able to provide this plugin? Is it available anywhere?
