It seems like there are some advantages using the DSC panels. My original plan was to use a security monitoring company (e.g. ADT) to do the initial install and monitoring. Is anyone here aware of monitoring companies that utilize DSC panels?

Nice, I’m assuming with IP monitoring if the power/internet goes out you lose the monitoring. Although that isn’t really a deal breaker for me. I’m most concerned that I wanted an “alarm company” to come in and do the wiring of everything related to the alarm and then just be responsible for connecting it to the Vera. This approach seems to have me (or my electrician) more responsible for the alarm. Not a real issue just a change of plans.

The other thing that I haven’t seen mention is ensure the alarm system, router and Vera are connected to a UPS (interrupted power supply).
You should still be able to get an installer to do the wiring (the best option for some) and setup but most on this forum wish to do this themselves. You do not have to use the optional monitoring and the panel still has a normal phone connection for reporting to a monitoring company. In addition, there are other DSC IP monitoring devices which can also be added for reporting to another monitor company. So there are numerous options just some may not be aware of the EVL3 and its integration capabilities.
