After endless bad luck with Foscam I was about to give up on an IP cam altogether when I happened to notice an IP cam at Costco that looked just like the Foscam camera and thought “well, at least with this one I can return it” and brought it home. It connected right up and worked as advertised right out of the box. I even got my iPhone to see and control it over 3G…win.
Now comes the fun stuff, has anyone used this cam and has anyone tried using it through Vera? I already downloaded the MIOS plug in for a generic and Panasonic cam for the foscam, that never got connected. At this point I’m very gun shy with these cams, the software seems very fragile to me so if someone could hold my hand and walk me through setting up an actual working web cam, I would really appreciate it. The camera connects using a service called Yoics at yoics.net, not sure that’s even useful or would be used but that’s how I’m seeing the cam now.
I did some googling not a long ago on Mole, and it doesn’t look very promising.
The camera seems to be locked from all directions… even worse then iPhone

What do you mean “locked from all directions”?
It means you can access device’s features only in a way the manufacturer wants you to access, and all regular “generic” ways are blocked.
In this case they want you to access images and control camera only by using a specific service, not direct using published (usually HTTP-based) API.
Google it, you’ll see way too many people complain on the limitations of the camera.

I think your mistaken, the Mole is not locked at all, you can easily use the Mole as just like any other Generic IP camera. I think the Mole may have to many features that confuses people, but it is defiantly not locked. And it does work with the iPhone and Mac.
For the Single Image URL http://[camera ip]/tmpfs/auto.jpg
And you can easily connect to the RTSP stream also.
Its fairly easy to use most of the controls as they are pretty obvious by looking at the web pages.
I have and use this camera so if you have any questions let me know.

Great, I’m going to try this tonight…look for a PM from me tomorrow ;D
This cam has been great. It was easy to add to Vera (thanks to lowerpower ), the image is pretty sharp and the customer support has been very good. If you’re trying to decide on a low cost cam and it’s between this and the Foscam…go with the Mole, just for the customer support alone.
The only downside is I have no control over the cam through Vera but I can live with that.
**currently watching construction on the lot next to mine from work with full audio (the cat is not happy about it) **

Mbairhead, do you use the sd dvr feature? How is the night vision?
Garrett[/quote]
I do use the night vision and it works well, though I have to admit limited experience with night vision web cams to compare to. I just set up the SD card today and it seems to be working but I can’t check from work as I can’t install software on this machine (requires VLC to view) but I’ll let you know tonight. The folder contains several new items though.

I got it to work too. Can see video. Has anyone had luck with controlling the camera with Vera?
Sorry guys been out, and I have to leave again for another month, but if you have any questions on control and the info you need I can send it to you I think I have most of the PTZ stuff figured out.

Just got back from a long vacation and I set up the DVR function and it worked great. I set it up to watch my front door from inside the house and record any motion as well as email me a still picture. Unfortunately when setting up the Motion Detection area, I also included one of the windows that run along the side of the door. I came home to dozens of video of cars driving by and my inbox was full of images. I have learned that lesson and fixed it and it works great. I wish I could create a scene that would turn on the DVR or not, such as when I lock the front door, turn on the DVR.
Just came across some of the questions on this topic.
the Foscam Fi8918W has full MAC support and MAC installation utilities. Audio is supported on IE only. This camera is fully supported by Vera2, shipped by IPCam-central.com. (video, Pan, Tilt and Auto Horizontal Patrol). installation instructions are available on our site. We provide full customer support for this camera, in case of need.
We offer the SmartEye NC530W, which can also be used with an MAC. The camera installation can be done using Safari on the MAC, as soon as the camera IP Address is identified. The camera has a local SD card slot, supports bidirectional AUDIO on MAC and Windows, and is compatible with Google mail for Motion Alarm emails
This camera is fully supported by Vera2, shipped by IPCam-central.com. (video, Pan, Tilt and Auto Patrol). installation instructions are available on our site.
All Motion detection video clips can be automatically transmitted to an ISP FTP account.
We offer the NC532W-FTP, and outdoor camera with a night vision range of 120ft and similar functionality as the Smarteye NC532 (but the PT function).
Again, it is fully supported by Vera2, shipped by IPCam-central.com. (video, Pan, Tilt and Auto Patrol). installation instructions are available on our site.
Please feel free to address any questions on the above to cs@ipcam-central.com or to me on this forum.

Thanks David but I ended up with the Mole cam because I had such a bad experience with the Foscam. In fact, I currently have one of them in my basement that isn’t even a good paper weight but Foscam refused to take back. So…unless you have found a way for these cams to be less of a P.O.S. then I will stick with what (in my experience) actually works, and works very well with Vera.

On a SmartEye camera, in addition to auto.jpg there is LARGE Image URL http://[camera ip]/tmpfs/snap.jpg
Does anyone know the Direct Streaming URL for SmartEye cameras?
Where can one get the Mole camera? Is it only available at Costco? I currently don’t have any security cameras but would like to install one for my front and back doors as well as inside the house for security and monitoring. It sounds like the Mole would work well with my iPhone for viewing. Would adt sensors works also with the Vera2?
