migration from veraEdge to veraPlus: time consuming, much work, unexpected bugs

The expected easy migration from veraEdge to veraPlus per backup-reload failed.
An immediately repeated reload reportes “sucess”, but veraPlus crashed and didn’t start again. Factory reset and some repetitions didn’t help.

So after another factory reset I started the exclusion of all single devices on veraEdge and the inclusion on veraPlus.
Some devices apparently working on veraPlus: philio floodsensor PHIEPAT02 , Popp HVAC POPE010101 = danfoss LC13, Popp wallPlugSwitch POPE009006 , aeotec siren AEO_DSD31, fibaro universalSensor FGBS321-001.
I hope the connection of the HVAC’s remain stable, although there is now only node 1 listed as neighor (on veraEdge ther were many nodes listed).
My impession was, that with veraPlus the alignment of the devices (horizontal, vertical) is more efffectual than with veraEdge.

Bad Surpise: Two types of devices don’t work any longer on veraPlus: philio multisensor 4in1 (PST02-1A) and philio switch/Relais PAN04-1B / PAN06-1B. I’ve made up 2 special post for these.

My Experience: Changing veraEdge to veraPlus needs much, much more time and work than I’ve expected and in this moment I’m not sure, that it comes to a good end. But go back to veraEdge needs also much time, because I’ve to re-include the devices there.

Hope it’s helpful for others planning the migration.

I think something was wrong with your backup file.
I did similar procedure about a month ago and had no big issues (one device needed re-including, probably due to range problems, and another one - siren - needed to be waked up by tamper switch to re-establish connection).

I did two Edge to Plus upgrades recently. Both worked first time. One had about 100 RA2 devices, 6 schlage locks, garage door, door bells, door bird, Autelis, security system; about 200 devices.

By migration, I really hope you mean, as the other guys say, just restore a backup from Edge to Plus, and you didn’t “controller shift”, and “copy z-wave network” procedure.

I made a zwaveNetwork-backup and a following backup on veraEdge, than a restore on veraPlus. The restore started running and some time later I got the failure note. It was possible to go on working on veraEdge (without any devices).

Then I repeated the restore. After the failure message I suddenly startet the reload again. Now it restarted (at the execution level it has reached) and finished. Then a long time nothing happened.

I made a cold reboot an veraPlus came not up.

Hello Sorin,
today I made the actual firmware-update offered for veraPlus since yesterday. After that the box didn’t come up.
Some Powercycle didn’t help, the system wasn’t reachable. The lights looped between “only power” and “power+internet”. Even factory reset didn’t work. I could not bring up the device.

Today I retoure veraPlus. Bad idea to move from veraEdge!

For the sake of completeness:

End of 01.2018 I immediately returned the veraPlus box to the retailer in Germany and got a new one within a week. This box was runnig “empty” until 06.2018 (wired connection with internet, no zwave devices connected, no apps), because I didn’t find time and I lacked the courage to migrate again.
In Jun 2018 I removed the network cable for a 2 weeks holiday. After the next boot veraPlus was down (only power light). After a restart I didn’t get connection with with the LAN, because the cable MAC address had changed to the wifi-MAC adress. Restart and a factory reset didn’t help.
Within a few hours I got mios support. The very competent Customer Care Advocate got the box back into the network - with a lot of effort. But the z-wave net didn’t work again - the hardware was broken. Some weeks later I got a parcel with a veraPlus as replacement. Again I connected the box “empty”, because the lack of courage to migrate.

But in Nov 2018 I gave me a heart and recovered a backup of my veraEdge into the veraPlus. The system started and worked without errors within 2 minutes. Not a single problem since then!
