Can you be more specific on the DVR part, are you wanting to connect to the I/O or relay's? What did you want the Z-Wave device to do once it's connected, trigger the DVR or respond to the DVR?

The only thing that comes to mind is using the HRDS1’s aux input connected to the DVR’s relay, you could then use it as a Z-Wave trigger to a camera event?

I want my motion to trigger my lights. That’s easy. Then I want my motion sensor to also trigger an I/o device that is wired into the alarm sensors of my dvr triggering it to record. If I could I would run a wire from the dvr to a motion but I can’t get it there. I was also thinking of using the sm103. Perhaps it would work I don’t know.

I’m assuming the motion is Z-Wave ?
Are you able to set the screen (camera viewing area) to trigger the DVR’s alarm on video motion?

The SM103 is the same thing as the HRDS1, but having a Z-Wave motion detector trigger a non Z-Wave device ???

is Vera next to the DVR and does the DVR have a serial interface? (I’m not sure where I’m going with this question though)
You could use the Z-wave relay others are using for the garage opener?
Does your DVR use IR? You could use the Z-Wave motion to trigger an IR response?

How about the LFM-20, could my motion trigger both my lights and trigger this to affect the relay? I would wire the relay into the DVR?

Yes, the LFM-20 has isolated contacts so you could use it as a the DVR trigger.
Your Z-Wave motion would trigger everything Z-Wave so you would be set.

What about using the insteon 2450. I can also get one of those USB Insteon modems to allow Vera to insteon support. Wondering if I can trigger the io on that device through Vera?

You have a DSC alarm correct?

If so then why don’t you use one of the PGM outputs of the panel to trigger the DVR? You can also use the Alarms motion sensors to trigger lights through Vera, and maybe even send something to the DVR to tell it to record!

What sort of DVR to you have?
