Logging broken in UI5? And about those alerts...

Upgraded to Vera3 / UI5 and got a message late afternoon yesterday that somebody used a code to open and close the door. Zipped home, checked the Vera logs for the lock last night and…no logs. Also no record of any notifications that went out. No idea which code was used and no way to document when they were used. Multiple issues here:

  1. Notifications in UI5 are broken; texting doesn’t work at all so I’m relying on email for notification. Email notification is spotty; I’ve had alerts take hours to arrive via email. So this could just be an email notification that was off by a few hours.
  2. The lack of logging is a SERIOUS problem. It’s impossible to troubleshoot, there’s no legal documentation to prove that, say, my dog walker came in the house at four PM, and in general makes my primary perimeter security device much more squishy than it’s allowed to be.

Short term I’m going to address this with a camera that records entry and exit, but I hope these issues are on the front burner.

I’m having issues with logging in UI5 on Vera 3 as well. I also am experiencing slow mail delivery and no SMS message delivery.

I thought it was just me. I just got mine setup over the last couple of days. The Schlage lock is the last thing I have on the old Link system now (since I found directions here on how to re-flash the camera to get it working), so I guess I’ll be waiting for SMS to get fixed first. Kind of a bummer though, I can’t trigger any other actions until that gets fixed.

Just out of curiosity, are you on the latest UI 5 firmware? 1.5.254? The SMS can also be server related. I believe they switched systems and are working out the kinks. Hopefully MCV can chime in.

What country and phone provider are you on? Can you send me an e-mail at florin@my.mios.com with your Vera serial number?

I’m on Verizon in the USA.

my devices logs are also empty since upgrading to ui5. I have also noticed that the Yale locks do not send out bad pin notifications.

To all those on Verizon: try sending an e-mail to <your_phone_number>@vtext.com e.g. If your phone number is 876-555-4321, the e-mail address is 8765554321@vtext.com.

If after a couple of minutes you didn’t get any SMS on your phone then it means that you didn’t activate your service for receiving SMSes via e-mail, which Vera uses to send SMS notifications.

If you get your message then try sending an e-mail to +1your_phone_number@vtext.com. This time I added the country code, which is +1. e.g. For the same phone number as above, the e-mail address is +18765554321@vtext.com.

Let me know if you get the SMS when you prefix the phone number with the country code.

Yes, if I send an email to my_phone@vtext.com I get the text. What I have done is set up a separate user with my vtext email for text messages, I set this account for notification only. Is this the method I should use for each user on my Vera3? Or is this a work in progress that could be fixed soon?

But if you send an e-mail to +1your_phone@vtext.com do you receive anything? We suspect that the reason Verizon users don’t receive notifications is because the phone number is prefixed with the country code. Apparently Verizon VText doesn’t like this. We just want to have confirmation that this is indeed the issue.

Ok, sorry I didn’t catch the total diagnosis angle of your post.

I added +1 to my vtext email address and it stopped working. Just to confirm, I then set it back without +1 and it immediately started working again. So it does seem that if Vera is adding +1 then it will cause it to fail.

And with your confirmation there are 3 confirmation total (I got 2 on e-mail), so I’m pretty sure that this is the reason the notification weren’t working, and will fix them as soon as possible.

mcvflorin: I have verizon, I can get text just fine in either case, with or without the +1. My v2 sends text alerts just fine, my V3 not at all, I have tried re-adding everything from scratch, rebuilding new scenes and power cycling with no result

This has been fixed, please test and let me know if the SMS notifications are working.

I never get the verification email with the code but get it from the MyAlerts page instead - this works.

I get email test notifications but not SMS

I am in the UK on Vodaphone and list my number without the “0” at the front.

I have email and sms notification check box ticked.

can any one offer any help?

I also notice test emails stop for a while after the first test then say 1 hour later start working again?
