Lite vs. Edge for absolute beginner

Hi,

Beginner here with EnvisaLink on DSC alarm panel and Ecobee3 smart thermostat, planning to start with adding motion sensors, garage door opener/sensor and a few light switches. Should I go for the Lite or the Edge?

Thanks in advance!

I’ll chime in since I was in the same boat as you not too long ago. I went with the Edge, mainly because it wasn’t that much more than the Lite and it has an updated processor and more RAM. I didn’t need the built-in WiFi on the Edge so I just disabled it.

Here’s their specs in case you haven’t already looked them up:

Ok but this controler is compatible with the new Zwave+ devices

For sure I would not buy a VeraLite as VeraEdge (and Zwave+) is available along UI7

Yes get the edge over the Lite, double the RAM plus the extras others have said. I have upgraded two LITEs due to low RAM.

I bought the Edges on amazon for 135.00 you just need to watch.

And no problem with the stability of Edge being newer vs. Lite which has been in use for some time?

Thanks for all responses!

They both use the same software (unless you manually downgrade to ui5 on the lite). And it’s better you get used to ui7 anyways.

Hi ayking

Think you’ve asked the key question. You must run UI7 on the Vera Edge. UI7 software is still in beta release (or pre-beta to some). The vera lite (or vera 2, vera 3) run UI5 which is far more stable. You choose…
