LED Strip off of 12v outdoor lighting transformer?

For the life of me I can’t seem to find an easy answer online, and figured one of you had likely already thought of this. I have some backyard lighting running off a Hampton Bay 12v transformer. I replaced all the lights lately with LEDs, so should have plenty of power left in the transformer.

My question is, can I direct connect some outdoor LED strip lights to use on the deck? I was going to purchase a separate transformer and then realized they both run at 12v?

Thanks.

Add up the wattage loading of all the lights you want to add and the ones you already own. Compare to the wattage rating of your transformer. If the transformer rating is greater than your load, you should be ok. I have done the same thing and wanted only one transformer so I ended up buying just one larger transformer to power everything.

@tomgru It would help if you provided a link to the transformer and the replacement LEDs lights you used. In general, garden lighting transformers are typically AC. Replacement “AC” LED “bulbs” use internal electronics to convert the AC to a DC Voltage/current to suit the LED(s) in use. The majority of LED strips are designed to use DC - most often 12 or 24 Volts. As per @anham total power consumption versus the supply’s capabilities needs to be considered.
