LED strip light dimming

Hi everyone,

I’m looking at buying some LED strip lights, and I’m trying to figure out the best way to integrate them with Vera.

That product I linked to is just the light strip. I have to figure out what I need in order to power it. It appears that most people buy a 12v adapter/transformer. It seems highly unlikely that I could dim a transformer like that, and I worry that it might not be safe to begin with.

Any ideas? I have a bunch of GE lamp modules lying around that I’d like to task for this. I also have some appliance modules that would work fine, but I really want to dim these, and I don’t want to use the manual inline dimmers that others are using…

I bought this http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00476B908/ref=oh_details_o03_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 to add to this http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0040FJ27S/ref=wms_ohs_product?ie=UTF8&psc=1.

These do dim. From the remote, IR. I have not gotten around to yet, but will be integrating with Zwave powered outlet any my IR blaster to set scenes with different colors and dimming via IR. It is going to be very time consuming to create the implementation IR files with IR codes.

I’m saving this for a winter project… so I’ll let you know when I get to it. Please let me know what you find.

Found a newer product:

I just installed the milight controller and wifi bridge and it works great and integrates using the MIos app within Vera

Please share more! I’d love to know how to do this! Thanks for your suggestions, paulcusick3, but those aren’t fully controlled through Vera and that’s what I’m looking for. rotelly, please let me know how you set up that controller!

So i ordered The following

5 Strand RGBW cable

Mi-Light RGBW LED Controller

Mi-Light WiFi Bridge Controller

RGBW LED Light Strip - I re-used the power supply to power the LED Controller

Look on the arduino section in the forum. People have done this with great success and it’s cheap and not hard to do. Currently I just have mine plugged into a zwave outlet that’s hidden above the cabinets but plan to change it to arduino when time permits.
