What is it that makes people who want to leave Vera feel the need to tell everyone else. Is it that they are worried that they are doing the wrong thing and they want support from others or is it that they want to persuade others to follow them to justify their move.
This forum is dedicated to Vera users (I would say Vera lovers but that may be pushing it) and I understand wanting to discuss problems and getting people working together but stop trying to persuade us to leave Vera.
If you want to go, then go. Just do it quietly.

If you want to go, then go. Just do it quietly.[/quote]It doesn’t have to be one or the other. I think most make these posts out of desperation/anger, one last stab at Vera Ltd. before they go. It’s pointless, but so is telling people what to do on an open public forum.
I do like/appreciate the ones that go to other platforms and return to discuss pro and cons, without the incoherent ‘I hate Vera because it doesn’t work the way I wished and now I’m mad’ posts.
Also, a lot of the gripes are justified. Many of them are long standing issues with functionality, not only ‘I want feature XYZ’, and Vera has had plenty of time to fix them. An inability to work with Z-Wave devices that have been on the market for over a year or more, all while still claiming guaranteed interoperability, is tough to excuse/justify.
Rage quit rants are good for lols. And sometimes understandable. Vera has been doing everything I ask the last six months. That was not always the case but I didn’t want to plop out cash for a more expensive solution so I was patient. Those that leave in anger are having a horrible experience. Sometimes, careful reading of a rant can provide valuable information.
The pro con posts are very valuable. It is nice to keep tabs on other options and I enjoy reading the experiences of others.
As has been said already, it probably makes the poster feel better. I have seen some very respectful, “I am leaving because…” type posts.
Forums are for helping each other out and it goes both ways. I started moving away from VERA’s but I still own 3 and haven’t left the forum because of it. So I’m not ready to quietly leave just yet. People post on this forum all the time comparing Vera to it’s competitors and I won’t hesitate to jump in a give my 2 cents for both sides of the fence. I stood up for VERA for years and still do in some respects. It’s a great place to start in home automation. But as people grow things change and you out grow hardware and problems. Someone that has been on more then once side of the fence is probley better at giving feedback then the person who only knows one device or played with another for a total of 3 hours.
Other people just saying their good buys and don’t know how to do it without pointing out why they are leaving and where they are going.
Vera Bashing is not new around here.
While I have no intention of leaving Vera I do enjoy reading other people’s perspective. I really like when they discuss what system they will choose next. I simply ignore the threads that don’t interest me.
It’s funny how perspectives vary. I’m new to Vera having received my VeraPlus not too long ago and I’m as happy as a clam. Granted I don’t expect that much in that I only have a few devices (both Z-Wave and a Zigbee) with a few scenes as I am transitioning from an X10 system that has been running for many years.
I chose Vera over the competitors because of the UI concept as opposed to an installed companion program (personal choice).
When I decided to move from X10 I read through the various forums and came to the personal conclusion that HA with Z-Wave and Zigbee (and others) are in the same state as early USB. It works but not without playing with it. I am expecting to see the “standards” become more standard and the reduction of the number of proprietary devices.
Just my two cents.

i left, making a point of letting people know as i had been working on certain plugin debugging and forum threads and thought that it was more polite then just leaving…and also i made a point of letting the forums know after my vera edge got bricked after a monthly firmware update for the 2nd time!!
i went to a raspberry pi (b) with domoticz and a z-stick but have since come back to Vera after the introduction of the Plus and am finding it as frustrating as i did with my edge as currently it seems the plus is not just a more powerful edge but a new model with different software under the hood.
My RFXCom is not working properly as it did previously and will not turn off devices after turning them on, the sonos plugin is slow to respond putting the TV volume back on after TTS, its a real step back but i like the GUI and also the support (when the DO FINALLY get back to you) are pretty good.
With regards to the Sonos volume, do check the MS Translator TTS thread as Lolodome posted updated files for the plugin that are supposed to address the delay issue.
i downloaded them in the last couple of hours so ill try them and see if its any better, thanks
