Wanted to ask others on the forum what their battery life is like for the Kwikset deadbolt? I put new batteries in about a month ago in my deadbolt and Vera is now reporting 20%. The lock hardly ever gets used. Polling is set to 180 minutes (3 hours). Anyone else experiencing poor battery performance with the deadbolts?
Garrett,
My deadbolt’s batteries haven’t been changed since I installed the lock, memory serve.
The lock gets activated at least twice a day when the kids leave for, & come home from school.
Something is odd with your lock for sure.
I had a similar issue with my Kwikset lever lock, but I think it may have been cheap batteries.
Maybe your polling it way to often. Change the polling to the default (Under Settings for your lock leave the “Poll this node” blank). I think default is every 3 hours like you said you have it but double check that you put it in as seconds not minutes. (10,800 seconds)
I installed mine in August and it’s only down to 80% and we lock and unlock it several times per day. So definitely sounds like something is not right. I didn’t change any of my settings other than adding pin codes. The suggest on the polling time is a good one.
I have to say I’ve been pleasantly surprised with the good battery life, in particular because the kwikset zwave deadbolt replaced a kwikset biometric powered deadbolt and the battery life on the older bio lock without a radio was about 3mo. While the zwave bolt mech and internals look very similar to the older bio lock they must have really learned and improved in this gen lock as far as battery life goes. The tapered bolt is probably one improvement that helps battery life as well.
Its also dependent on door alignment. I had one where the door wasn’t quite closed and the deadbolt was misaligned (so much on a few occasions the the lock would stop and error). The locks batteries only lasted a few months at the most because of this!
The tapered bolt helps a lot!
That’s odd. Mine is set to poll every 1800 seconds (every 30min). Also, as strangely said make sure the bolt is aligned and there isn’t undue friction between the bolt and the receiver.
The poll time is set to 10800 seconds. Nothing has changed. The batteries are rayovac alkaline batteries. Just checked the voltage and they are reading 1.24 volts. The deadbolt was being at me letting me know the batteries need replacing when using the keypad. I wonder if the rayovac batteries are just crap. I’ll have to try different batteries. The fit of the deadbolt is fine. It movement is nice and smooth with out and friction.
I’ll admit, that is unusual. Tonight, I will check the voltage on my Kwickset deadbolt. Like I said, I don’t recall ever replacing those batteries. It’ll be interesting to see what voltage my batteries have left.
I’ll pull the batteries out of the lever lock and see what they read. I believe these are a different brand. I am not 100% certain. The previous batteries lasted about 6 months. I think those were duracells.
