kwikset 910 Lock/Unlock Reversed

Let me start by saying this is not my first 910 lock but yet my first time having this problem with one. I have had several up and running on on more then one house for few months. Both left and right hand doors. Today I bought 2 more from liquidationlocks dot com. (previously I bought them from where he bought them until he decided to buy them all out and resale them). These are all store returns, dent or scratched and open boxes and what not.

Today I install one on my back door opens in and to the left. I hold the lock button as I enter the battery pack as usual green light after a bit and beep no problem. except I push the lock button and nothing happens. I manually lock it then press the lock button and it unlocks. So I try several times again remove the batteries press the program button 3 times wait 10 sec. then hold the lock button (door is open) while I put in the battery tray. It configures but same problem. Well I try the bolt extended and retracted while I insert the battery tray and I try holding the lock button longer and still no go. Finally I give up and try the other Lock I also got today thinking this ones bad or something. Same problem.

After awhile of still playing around I give up and say forget it Im going to take the zwave card out (don’t want to have to reprogram and such) of my working front door (right hand entry) and put it on my back door and program it to left entry and use this one on the right entry door. Well the front door with my new locks works fine in Right hand entry but I still couldn’t get the back door to work Left hand entry. So that’s 3 locks that all work backwards on that door. I’m thinking I just don’t know how to program these to left hand open. Anyone got any other Ideas for me to try?

I have done it with or without z-wave card in.
Always with the door propped open.
Deadbolt in the locked or unlock position.
With batteries out Pressing the program button 3 times and waiting to try and clear old settings.
I have continued with setup and zwave setup and everything works fine except for backwards. It will lock and unlock and show status and all. The bolts not getting stuck or do anything funky.

Thanks JIM

Well I found my own problem hours of goofing around later. All along I was playing with the wrong parts and never removed or swapped the bolt its self. Some how I ended up with a bolt that looks identical but is not the same and wont work. Check the pic to see the issue.

Hey There,

Can you tell me any more detail about this incident? The same exact thing has happened to me. Are you implying that the wrong parts came with your purchase? Or that you used some of your old lock parts by accident? It is unclear to me from your comments below. You have my attention though, because I purchased my lock from the same guys you did. So if you got some bad parts, then perhaps the same thing happened to me. I would really appreciate your help. I can’t tell from your photo either exactly what is wrong with the bolt, other than the center retraction piece looks as if it is in a different position.

Thanks for whatever information you can give to help me get some answers to this issue.

Best Regards,

David

I got the wrong parts from them on one of them. This is not a common problem with them, and the guy is great to deal with. He was shipping me out a new part today so I didn’t have to drive back down.

The problem is the nature of what he has. He has tons of returns, open boxes. He then opens and looks for anything obvious missing and gives a quick field test puts them in a box and calls it done.

People have returned them for some reason, stole parts from the kit then returned it, traded parts and returned it. Who knows. Honestly im pretty good with this and it took me hours to figure it out. no way he was going to notice this problem on a bench in the 10 min they spend inspecting each unit before calling it good to go.

Did you see the picture in the link i posted? It’s just the wrong part. It looks almost the same and without comparing the right part you would never notice. It’s not a broken part and it can’t be adjust or taken apart and fixed its just wrong. I’m assuming this part belongs to a different model kwikset lock. He only has these and the lower handle ones which isn’t a deadbolt. So i don’t think he put this wrong part in the box. Probley was returned to the store with this he opened it and looked like everything was there then sold it to me.

By the way the back story behind liquidationlocks dot com.

There was a place here local to me that had these locks on craigslist and ebay. It was called http://www.greenboxecycling.com/. They are an E waste company and they buy at auctions and deal with companies on pallets of junk that the company don’t want to deal with and rather scrap. Some things they buy auction like and sale some things they get for free to keep what they want and pay to properly dispose of the rest. I delt with them on a few occasions locally cash deal for a better then advertised price on these locks.

When I went in they were printing the manuals off online and adding them to boxes and taking a pallet of pieces and making a complete lock or taking 1-2 half full lock boxes to make one good one many didn’t have boxes or they were damaged. A lot had a scratch on one or more pieces I would pick threw and find the best that they would let me take for my cheap price.

Well I called them up recently and asked for more locks they said no more. I figured the pallet they had finally ran out, cuz it was a one time auction what they got was it. I looked online again which is how I found them in the first place. All I found was liquidationlocks on eBay, craigslist and now have a full website only for these locks. After talking to Matt and meeting him in person, I find out the real story.

Matt is a great guy ( Trust me I have no connection with him besides buying 2 locks from him and meeting him once) and is in the alarm business (not of his own I don’t think). After he needed some found GreenBox and was buying from them resealing to his customers (from what I gathered not what he told me directly), and turning them he then decided to buy the pallet/multiple pallets or lot from greenbox. So my old supplier is out and hes now it.

So the website is a one man operation slash side business by a young guy that was very helpful. When his stash of locks is gone, its gone. In the mean time he has a ton of them, along with parts and such for any that you might have that are broken. He sales the z-wave card to make the 909 to a 910. Or he sales the locks without the z-wave card also. Just know what your buying. There is a reason they are 50% off list. He does his best to bench test them and look in the box to make sure everything is there but when people return things to the store, they could have done something minor that might go unnoticed and get passed on to you. Matt was texting me helping me with my situation the whole time and hes no professional on these locks, but it wasn’t from his lack of trying.

Update: As he promised I received my replacement deadbolt in the mail today.

I would just like to give another shout out to Matt at LiquidationLocks.com. I bought a couple a month ago after reading the posts here and finally got around to installing them this past weekend - had an issue with one and sent an email on Saturday, not expecting a response until the following week. Got both an email response and a phone call on Saturday evening, we connected first thing Monday morning, he sent a working replacement unit and I’m sending the bad unit back today.

As far as the locks go, they were easy to install, included into Vera without a problem, and look and work great…
