Kira IR Receiver and Transmitter Plugins

How exactly do you do this part?[/quote]

Put KiraRT into learning mode by clicking the Learn button. Point your remote at the Kira module from the distance it will normally be used. Click the Harmony remote device button that you want to learn. If KiraRT indicates that it received the code, enter the name you want to use in the Name field and click the Save button. Repeat for each button.

Oh so I actually need the Kira hardware for this to work? I thought you meant you could use the Harmony Hub instead - did I misunderstand that? Do you mean you use the Kira hardware with a Harmony remote (not the Hub)?

My KiraXX plugins are designed to work with the Kira hardware. If you want a plugin that works with the Harmony Hub, see @reneboer’s plugin: http://forum.micasaverde.com/index.php/topic,28689.0.html

I use Kira hardware and my KiraXX plugins with Harmony and various other IR remotes. It seems happy to work with just about anything that sends/receives typical IR code formats.

Oh okay, I am using the plugin that @reneboer created but the limitation is that I need to create scenes for any single button press I want to execute from my phone or tablet. He pointed me here thinking it may help, but it seems like it is not compatible with my setup as currently constituted. Thanks for your help.

I just got a Hue starter set. I am thinking about adding IR control from my Pronto. I would need a few more triggers for basic function and a good many more for more proper control.

At this time I have no codes being received from the second Kira module (using TXO). I am thinking about removing the TXO and receiving codes from the second Kira module. Will all of the triggers need to be gone through? For example: lets say I had 20 being received with Kira1 and 20 being received with Kira2. Will there be 40 triggers to process or just the 20 from the Kira that that the codes were sent too?

Thank you! Mark

Hi Mark,

I’m not entirely sure I understand your question. If you change your second KiraRT to a full Rx/Tx device (you will need to change the Kira port number to be different from Kira #1), it will need to have its own set of codes to be recognized. It will only need those codes that you want to receive or transmit from/to that Kira.

If you have the codes already on KiraRT #1, you could make a copy of the backup file, edit it and delete the ones that you don’t need for Kira #2, then save it with the device number for KiraRT #2. Restoring it on KiraRT #2 should get you the codes that you need.

If that answer doesn’t fit your question, please ask it a different way.

Thank you once again for the quick reply!

Sorry for the confusion! Kind of hard to explain when I confuse myself.

At this time I have only 2 codes being sent from the bedroom Kira(2) to the living room Kira(1). I would change the Kira2 (bedroom) back to RT function by removing the TXO and changing the port. I would move the 2 codes from KiraRT(1) to KiraRT(2). I would add the new codes to KiraRT(2).

The living room KiraRT has about 20 codes to process. The bedroom KiraRT would have it’s own 20 codes to process. Will both KiraRT(s) process the codes (20+20) or will only the active KiraRT process codes (20)? I just want to avoid excessive delays when sending a sequence of codes.

Thanks again! Mark

Only the KiraRT set to the matching IP:Port of the Kira module that received the code will process it. The two KiraRT devices will work entirely independently.

Thanks again Rex!

Great answer!

There is a new version of KiraRT in the App Store. V1.2 has been changed to display correctly on version 7.0.5 firmware.

If KiraRT does not update automatically, enter the following browser command replacing with the IP address of your Vera:

<veraip>:3480/data_request?id=update_plugin&Plugin=8176

On UI7 it will require an additional restart and refresh before the UI is displayed correctly.

My Kira Plugin seems slow… is there a way to speed it up? I am on UI7 on a Vera Edge. The Kira will seem to accept and trigger the first 1 or 2 scenes quickly but after that, the commands seem to stack up, and trigger really slow. I can literally watch the KIRA device slowly processing each IR command in the Vera UI one every few seconds. Is my Vera just to busy?
I don’t seem to see the same issue when using a Minimote to send a bunch of zwave scene commands, only the Kira seems to be dragging.

If the Kira module receives a group of IR commands, it will take the plugin some time to read and check each one. I have not seen the very slow response that you describe although I have seen significant delays in the UI7 dashboard getting updated after device status changes.

It may not help but try adding the option URD=1 to KiraRT.

Brilliant! I set the ART and URD to 1 and then made sure my remote was not repeating any signals. This has made the Kira plug in super responsive, so much so that I was able to create a dim and brighten scene that ramps up and down my lights by 10% points and works fantastic as well as make the other lighting scenes super responsive to the remote.

Love this solution, finally get to use my URC 780 remote with my Vera for the media room instead of having to have a secondary minimote in the room. Love it!

Great news. I’m glad it is working for you. Thanks for the feedback.

KIRA becomes unresponsive —
I am having some trouble with my KIRA on a Vera Edge running UI7.

Sometimes (usually if the KIRA has not be used in a few days), I will send an IR code to the Kira (acknowledge light will come on) but the scene will not be trigger. I can try a bunch of different IR codes/scenarios but nothing will work.

I will log onto my Vera from the home.getvera.com website. And the KIRA will start working again. I don’t actually have to really do anything other than log on to the Vera KRIA and will start triggering scenes again.

Any ideas how I can keep my Kira unit up and running successfully without logging on to the web site?

I have not encountered that behavior. I have KiraRT running on an Edge. It always responds instantly even if it has been some days since the previous code was received.

Since logging on to Vera fixes it, it sounds as though it could be some issue with your network. How are Vera and KIRA connected to the network? How is Vera’s IP address fixed?

Another thought: Do you have Secure your Vera checked on Users & Account Info → Unit Settings? If so, this might explain the problem.

Vera and KIRA are both on the same network.
Vera and KIRA both have a reserved IP address on the home router so their addresses do not change.
Don’t have Secure Vera turned on.

Let me do a little more playing around. Today when the KIRA wasn’t working, I was able to use a Minimote to trigger the same scenes that the KIRA would normally be triggering, so it wasn’t like the Vera was off line. KIRA seemed to heal itself when I logged on to the Vera to debug what was wrong.

Let me see if I an repro the problem and give you more specifics.

Hi

there is a manual somewhere how to use Kira IR and vera ui7 ?
I recently purchased a Kira ir and vera edge, has a Philips Pronto to switch on lights when you press the stop button as an example, then I would use that Kira transmits IR to put on the air conditioning, where I start ?

Vera provides a link to the help file once the plugin is installed. It is also available here.

trying to learn it but nothing happens, choose to learn and then I press a button on the remote Control.

MrDTS

Why do I have to answer the verification each time? When I post on this forum ?
