Keep getting _Generic IO on new devices

I have been tring to install more Insteon devices in my home but the last 2 just keep giving me _Generic IO as the device and saying it can not configured. I already have 4 other Insteon devices on my system so I am not sure why I am having this issue. They are all on the same power panel. Any clues would be most helpful.

Vera Lite FW:1.5.408

Working:
3x SwitchLinc Dimmer 2477D
1x OutletLinc Relay 2473S

Not Working:
OutletLinc Relay 2473S
FanLinc 2475F

Not sure about the other relay switch. But I do not think the fanlinc will show up correctly. The insteon support in vera is very basic. User fba created a 3rd party plug in that adds better insteon support.

ah shoot. Guess I should have looked that up before buying… Well I guess I can take a crack at setting up Altsteon.

Thanks for the info!

I have the same behavior on my system this morning. Can I ask you how you got your insteon devices to show up properly on the Vera Lite? I am trying to use the basic Insteon provided by Vera.

Last night I fiddled with this into the wee hours and was able to get the dimmer showing up and working after much trial and error. Unfortunately I woke up this morning and my wife had unplugged everything to paint the wall. When I restarted, there were no devices in the configuration.
I tried this process get things back up:

  1. Added the Insteon Devices Manually using the insteon address through //Setup/Insteon Settings/
  2. Pushed the Setup button on the PLM
  3. Pushed the Setup butting on the Dimmer Switch to link to the PLM
  4. Toggled the switch on an off. It beeped.

Now the dimmer shows up as Generic_IO and only provides on/off controls. Last night it mysteriously changed to a dimmer control and the dimmer slider worked fine. I cant seem to get back to that behavior today even with the same device.

Does anyone know what the right steps are to add insteon devices properly with Vera Lite’s built in Insteon support?
Adding them manually is the only way I have been able to get them to show up. I see there is another screen for adding insteon devices which you can reach through //Devices/Add Devices but this didn’t seem to work for me.

Q. Under <_GenericIO>//Settings there are configuration options. Anyone know how these work?
There are device settings like : “Use Default Configuration” Yes/No
“Configure device Now” Thinking there might be something to these.

Q. Is it possible to change the configuration of the devices using the //Advanced Tab and changing the “Device_type” and Device_File" settings?

The documentation on this thing seems non-existant and I am not sure I want to become a Unix programmer in order to get the Altsteon code running. (not even sure if Altsteon works with Vera Lite)

Any luck getting up and running?

I set mine up by first doing a factory reset on the PLM. The go to Devices/add device/Insteon (hit Add)/then on the insteon page hit the middle add button net to the blank input window. The PLM will beep. Then hit the button on the device I want to add. You might here the PLM beep again.

Now you will see the new device on the Devices page, but it will show as some generic device. Give the Veralite some time to settle, and then hit the reload button. The insteon device should show up correctly after the reload. Unfortunately this does not show the 6 button keypad correctly. It appears as several devices and a scene controller. The keypad can be used as a scene controller from this point as described in another thread.

Also I had to go through this process for each insteon device. Good luck.
