Garret, that would be any INSTEON device correct? My Vera lite shows up tomorrow and I am working on a purchase list for everything else. A few things I can’t find that are zwave.

You will need an Insteon USB PLM 2413U. Just to warn you, Vera’s native Insteon support is subpar at best. There are other options like Altsteon (not the easiest thing to setup) or buy an Universal Devices ISY994 and use the Universal Devices ISY plugin that I developed.

To expand on what Garret said the built in support basically only covers the SwitchLinc IOLinc and DimmerLinc http://wiki.micasaverde.com/index.php/Insteon_Supported_Hardware

I am running Altsteon and have been very happy with it, but may consider a controller with more native Insteon support like the ISY in the future.

So the basic switches listed in the wiki work “out of the box” but if I want a keypad (smarthome #2334-233) I have to spend the extra $80 on the PLM? Any chance that native support for more devices will be added down the road? I don’t want to waste the $80 on the PLM. I would rather spend that on switches.

You need the plm no matter what. It is a requirement. The built in insteon support is only one way. You will not receive instant feedback on them. Altsteon over comes this as well as my plugin.

Thanks again for the help. Last question. Does any other controller on the market handle both without extra equipment and still about the same cost of the VeraLite?

The universal devices isy994 can be fitted with a zwave board. They have been adding support for more zwave devices.

That’s awesome! The USB PLM 2413U has some pretty horrible reviews on reliability, a one stop shop would be nice
