Is this achievable... Ion wireless door sensor + Vera + door lock

Can an ion plunger wireless door sensor be used without any alarm system installed?

Here is the scenario:
-Brand new Veralite
-Brand new door lock
-No other z-wave items currently
Want to be able to use the ion plunger wireless door sensor with Vera to know when the door is actually closed and issue the instruction to my zwave enabled lock… Either Yale/Kwikset/Schlage to lock the door after say 5 sec of the door being closed. If the door remains open I don’t want it to auto lock.

Is this possible? I am hoping no special equipment needs to be purchased beyond the ion sensor, Vera, and the lock.

The next phase will be to maybe try to find some sort of “beeper” or something like you have on newer fridges but louder and use that with Vera for letting me know if the door was left open or not fully closed because the ion plunger sensor has not detected a change in its state in “x” timeframe.

Is this possible?

If so, please provide some guidance.

The Ion door sensors are designed to only work with the Alarm panel. They use a different frequency and security to communicate back the panel. There is no way to have this work with out it.

Thanks Garrett. Ok, so no go on the small and easily concealable ion plunger wireless sensors since i don’t have an alarm panel.

Can you or anyone else recommend some super small zwave door/window sensors that should help achieve my goal?

I used the Velleman HAA29 along with Everspring (or equivalent) SM103 Z-wave door/window sensors. They have a terminal block to connect external sensors.

Picked 'em up at the local Fry’s…they have a great selection of security stuff and zwave components as well. These can be recessed into a door frame/jamb etc.

Thanks Tony. The Velleman is not a z-wave device so I can’t use that by itself… So I am assuming you use the Velleman with some sort of alarm system? If not, how are you integrating the Velleman with the Everspring SM-103? Do I need to provide power to the Velleman and solder a connector or something to it to plug it into the Everspring?

Sorry for so many questions. I am super new to all this stuff and trying to get clear ideas/direction before I start buying items and drilling holes.

Thx

They are using the door contact to connect to the everspring which has connectors to allow you to connect an external sensor. The everspring will relay weather the sensor is triggered or not.
