Is it worth upgrading from Vear lite to Vera 3 ?

I need to replace my Vera lite today as it is faulty. Question is, do i buy a Vera 3 or another Vera lite ? I have about 65 devices, and lots of plugins, so running close to limit on Vera lite. Originally i wanted to wait for the Vera pro, but as my Vera lite is out of action (for a few days now), i need to order a replacement today. Is the Vera 3 faster ? I do not need the wifi of Vera 3, nor the 2 usb ports as i use a powered usb hub. So its just speed really i am interested. And possibly memory which i know is double in the Vera 3

I noticed that some of your questions asked recently could be found by searching. There are a few topics on this matter already:

Google Search

You pretty much just answered your own question, if you do not need the features of the Vera 3 than stick with the Vera lite. There are no speed differences as they are the same exact hardware minus the differences you mentioned.

I did try to find information on here, but did not use the right search term. Using your google search i get what i wanted, i knew i had seen something on here just couldnt find it any more. And using that google search is a lot easier than using the forum search…

Yes, I use the google search option when searching the forum.

site:forum.micasaverde.com your search term

It finds much better results! : )

Hi @mike123

If you need one today, considering what you’ve got installed and the potential for that to grow even more - then buying a Vera 3 is a no brainer.

Looking back, I wish I’d gone with a V3 but choose the cheaper lite.

I didn’t expect HA to be so all consuming when I jumped on board - not only in time & money but memory resources too :wink:

If you do not mind spending the extra money, get the vera 3. You already know what you are getting into.

Or get the vera lite to hold you over until the new hardware.

I’ve ordered a Vera 3, as i am close to the limit with my lite, and as @parkerc rightly said, gives me the potential of growing it more… that means i can split my PLEG’s and have more plugins… Just a shame it had to happen now, as i was really hoping it would all work until the new hardware comes out. On the upside, no pressure to upgrade, Vera 3 should handle everything i want for a while, and if they can repair my lite i’ll have that as backup in case things go wrong again, at least i will not be without a controller

The current memory usage on my Vera 3 platform is shown in the attached screenshot. I consider myself fortunate to have selected the Vera3 instead of the Vera Lite more than a year ago. I suggest you select the Vera 3 since it has twice the memory of the Vera Lite.

I think you made the right decision. New products are not always as quite as wonderful as the guys in Marketing would have us believe. It is far less traumatic to let others fight the initial bugs and switch once most of the dust has settled. ;D

@RexBeckett

;D good point. Lets see how they work first, i can still sell my Vera 3 and upgrade if i wanted to once all the bugs (well most of them) have been ironed out…
