OK I am new to home automation in fact I haven’t even set up my vera3 yet
But I’m doing the wiring now for a front outside light. What I’m looking to do is have the light be able to turn on via motion sensor and if I choose to be able to turn on from the inside (manually)
Is it possible to set up or no…its either or?
Thanks
You can put a z-wave relay behind you inside switch.
For the motion sensor configure a scene that will turn on the light.
Thanks in advance to all who have paved the road ahead of us noobs.
I am now just realizing how crazy n cool this whole home automation thing really is.
I am just scratching the surface.
But how do I wire up a relay and how does it work.
like what does the relay work?
You may have a look here http://www.vesternet.com/resources/application-notes/apnt-17#.VBCJ9TVdaSM
Correct me if I’m wrong, but would I need a relay switch if the switch on the inside if the house is z wave compatible?
I was under the impression the relay takes a standard switch and makes it z wave compatible
is this right?
So I’m looking to have my outdoor light go on from either the inside ( z wave ) switch or from someone walking up to the door, with a z wave motion sensor
Does this sound like an easy fix?
Welcome!

Correct and correct. Those are two options. (Replace the switch with a Z-Wave switch, or keep the switch and put a Z-Wave relay behind it (or somewhere else where this can be properly wired). There may not be a neutral in the box where your current switch is.)
Yes I have a z wave switch installed to turn the porch light on, but can I add a motion into the mix
You can have a z-wave switch control that light, and you can trigger that switch from other devices such as basically any type of sensor, or triggered from other switches, remotes, homelink if you have it, etc. The possibilities aren’t endless, but there’s definitely a lot out there.
