iRule

iRule just put Version 3 out… They released a Micasaverde Module with it (along with Lutron, HAI etc…) Has anyone tried this out yet?

Not at $25 per handset, it is really not worth the effort given the current 3rd party apps already available.

Then what is the best system & app for integrating AV gear using IR blasters? I don’t care about the cheapest. What’s the best?

I need macro-based - one touch - universal remote control for my Home Theater. I’ve programmed hundreds of Universal remote and Harmony’s…

Thanks,

SQ Blaster seems easiest to setup but limited to mainly IR via their own blaster but with nice Vera control.

iRule seems to cover more hardware and much more advanced UI but a very steep learning curve. I was surprised when I configured my pioneer receiver as an ip receiver, even though I’m running through an ELK ip to Rs232 converter. I just choose the ip of my elk device and port and it worked.

Ironically you can’t use the sqblaster with iRule so I need a global cache device or aton etc… for the ir gateway but everyb other piece of hardware seems to be supported.

I’m still using both for now, but you can try iRule in a trial period and see how it performs with your existing setup. It reminds me of andre remote for android if you are familiar based on advanced communication options and feedback.

SQBlaster, tested and proved…

I have redeye too. but sqblaster is the best option ! no doubts.

I was wondering the same.

I have a Nevo Q50 which isn’t working as perfectly as it once did. I was considering the IRule myself and or the SQ Blaster.

Do these two work with the Ipad Mini? The wife has the Ipad, can’t see mysylf using the Ipad as a remote.

I too want the best, I wish Nevo still stayed in business of remotes. Hard keys are still ideal IMHO.

Have any of you had a NEVO or Pronto and been heavy into programming one? Just curious how the transition is to the Irule or SQ Blaster and the learning curve. I tried the Irule and what I didn’t care for was logging online to create my file. Is that for the trial version only? If Irule goes south like Nevo did, at least i still have the software and my program files on my own PC still.

Where can you buy the SQ Blaster? The link on their site is dead

and it’s not available on Amazon either

Sqblaster runs ipad mini and iphone and for 30 us$ you buy a software to create on pc all screens to your devices (only apple devices including ipod)

Really is difficulty to buy sqblaster my last one was buyed in smarthome.com but no more in stock.
What is happening with this product ?

^^^ Thanks for the input.

Bit concerned about the difficulty in buying the product. That is a bad sign to me…

Sqblaster is good product…

redeye is out of the Market !

only now I think is the brand Global Cache…

But I don’t know about global cache if is a good product and if talks with vera like sqremote software.

From this review, it sounds like SQ is defunct

Folks,

First we are not out of business but have been undergoing significant changes… and have had some major challenges. The good news is we are now back on track. We have more stock coming in shortly. Homeseer sells SQBlaster in US and Canada, and http://www.domotica-shop.nl/ has some stock in Europe.

The ticket system should be back to 24 hour response and we will endeavor to answer any questions you have.

Thanks for your support,

Mat

That’s good to hear Mat.

Would you be so kind to share what these challenges are? Manufacturing issues etc? As a consumer, it’s scary when you hear a company becomes non-responsive. Transparency would be helpful.

Also, I know Worthington Distribution carried your product in 2012. I was considering ordering with them as they’ve been my preferred supplier for a number of years.

Does your software work on the Ipad mini? The mini isn’t referenced on the website

As Mat said, I think the challenges were related to the significant changes, which you can read as they are pushing to grow, offer new solutions, and be:

“Better, stronger, faster…they have the technology” -Oscar Goldman.

I am hoping Mat can answer as I don’t see anything referenced on the website as to what they’ve been up to lately.

Their website news feed dates back to 2011

The Irule webpage is up to date as of 2 days ago

I’d like to understand where things with their company stand before I invest into their platform over Irule.

Several business, personal and technical issues. One significant one was we decided to take on some external investment… and that always ends up consuming your time. Happily we have found the right partners and are moving forward at great speed… Also, life never goes quite to plan ;-). We had some manufacturing hiccups when one of our suppliers was taken over by a major player… and we have been reworking our products. We had a beta program for a new product, and from the feedback we decided to go back to the drawing board and use a completely different technology. Will be much better and the point of beta programs to get the feed back and see how things work in the field. The blaster is solid and a proven design - I love mine - and we are back on track with the manufacturing.

I am not sure what Worthington are up to … they never really committed to us and have only bought in small quantities… which we were not willing to give a massive discount for .

Yes I am told it does… the reason I say I am told is that I haven’t had a chance to buy one and test it yet! I have been playing with Android devies (whoops - let that one out).

Thanks for the disclosure Mat, that goes a long way.

Suggestion, get your news feed up to date ASAP. In this day and age, many products appear to become vaporware rather quickly. It’s hard to tell who is really company or a one man show

I have been running iRule for a full week now. Pretty solid! I picked up the vera plugin for it also it implements all the basics which is fine for now. No issues with communication on RS232 or tcp control for my Sony BD and my Sharp TV. I’m impressed.
I’m starting to mess with some of the rs232 feedback so it will display the audio stream on a label (Dolby HD etc…) which is pretty cool. There is a lot more to it that I simply don’t have time for ATM but good to know its available.
Someone mentioned the online editor as far as I know that is the only way to program (hopefully a local editor will be available like SQs that I purchased) but you can download the config file to your pc as backup. I preferred SQs setup in that aspect but it was nice being able to edit from home and work with iRule cloud based editor.

For those waiting for the Blaster to come back on line… Don’t give up. I just got mine recently (the few that were available a month ago) and it was worth the wait. I have all my equipment in my hall closet and the blaster is so powerful it will control my TV ( as long as the closet door is open) by bouncing off the back wall of my living room (which is a great room).

As has been said, integration to Vera is great and so far have have had no problems with any of my older or newer gear.

I’m leaning toward the Irule. It just appears that it has a bigger following.

Now the question is, what device to load it on? I wish the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 came in tablet version only. Seems like the perfect sized hand-held device.

Maybe the solution would be to get a Nexxus 7 and figure out a way to mount it along side of my glass topped end table. Just need to find a way to blend it into the living room decor

I’ve been using iRule as part of a centralized administration point on a Samsung Galaxy 2 7" tablet which has worked out better then expected. iRule is great and flexible enough to control all my devices and with AutHomation, VeraAlerts and others the table is the prefect size and cost factor for everyone in the household (even my 3 year old).
