I have a Mac and all the equipment, and i have iphone, WHEN IS THE APP COMING?? please somebody tell me is there another app i can use to control vera?
Use the smart phone plugin:
www.findvera.com/mobile after installing the plug-in in Vera
It is quite responsive and easy to use. I am beta testing the new Square Connect App and my wife is forced to use the smart phone plug-in until the final release from SQ Connect. She is fine with that for the time being, but the App is literally in the final stages. All of the Beta testers are very pleased with it and are confident that it will glide through Apple approval smoothly. Sorry I should leave it to Square Connect for the specifics, but I think it’ll be worth the wait and the superior alternative to the Vera UI.
They have worked very hard to go above and beyond just a simple offering and I think they succeeded.
Thanks for the update. I cant wait until the app comes, i can practically run the world with the iphone… hehe
i have icam for watching my personal cameras, i have sonos for music which is awesome, now i just need home automation…
hey something i havent seen on this forum iscontrol of fans at home. i have several ceiling fans that run on radio remote and maybe they will work with this?? i dont know if they are z wave though…
they are not zwave, but leviton sells a zwave ceiling fan controller with 3 speeds, it is pricey but worth it IMO
Hey a question how do you get to beta test the SQ program on your iphone? does it need to be a hacked iphone or do you get the app via the itunes store? is there any possibility a newbie like me can install this app??
A while back they asked for folks interested in beta testing. Apples allows for an official means of beta testing apps with non-jailbroken phones, but limits it to I believe to 100 devices. From what I’ve read on other posts, they have reached this limit.
This is a quote from last week’s email to Squareconnect’s beta testers:
"Dear beta users,
We have released beta v1.5 today and it is available for you to
download from our site.
We are excited as we believe that this is our final beta release
before submission to the App Store."
For those who are waiting: The end is in sight!
Trust me guys. The app is worth the wait.
I don’t want to set unrealistic expectations, but it does exactly what you would expect it to, and it does it very well.
Second that statement. We have tested the heck out of it and it is pretty much bug free at this point. A few little issue but nothing major.
Looks like SQ is still vapourware.
If it was vapor-ware we wouldn’t be testing it.
For those that are testing, does it allow you to have two separate vera’s to be controlled? For example, I have my main house and my vacation home. They each have their own Vera’s. With the current iPhone integration from MCV I have to logout of one system and then login to the other. This is a major inconvenience.
Thanks!
not necessarily-
from wikipedia:
Vaporware describes a product, usually software, that has been announced by a developer during or before its development, if there is significant doubt whether the product will actually be released.[1] The term is usually applied to products which fail to emerge after having well-exceeded the period of development time that was initially claimed or would normally be expected for the development cycle of a similar product, or when the release date is delayed repeatedly without adequate evidence of specific unforeseen hurdles that cause these delays.
so just because it’s in development and testing doesn’t mean it’s not vaporware.
Personally i think it will arrive eventually- but I dont even own an IPhone and I’m getting bored at hearing “almost there” about the thing ;D
I’m with you michael. Getting tired of waiting around for an app that people on this forum have reported being stable for quite some time. And still no mention of a reasonable release date. We know it’s close, but it could be 2 weeks or it could be 2 years… that’s all we know - and, oh ya, that it’s stable…
Oddly enough, Square Connect apparently announced partnering with Intamac for a similar solution for their home control product back in April. In January, Intamac apparently announced their new iphone app at CES, and it seems Square Connect isn’t mentioned at all.

Yes, you will be able to control multiple Vera boxes. It works very well.
Im thinking of using a different solution then vera because it seems so unstable. I just got my vera box yesterday and had to reinstall firmware on it 2 times, and winded up sending it back to them today. When i bought it i bought the vera 2 not the old one. so they are sending me the new one now, i hope its not as unstable. is it normal that the light switches go on but it takes like 1-2 minutes, nad sometimes they just dont respond? Im new to this technology, but is it normal that sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt or is it very stable when it is running correctly? nonetheless i want to control it from my iphone with an iphone app…
My dilemma is this: I use apple imac, i have an iphone, and i purchased tons of z wave products. Which solution is best for me???
While I don’t have that big of a z-wave network (Trane Thermostat, 4 GE On/Off Switches, and the GE On/Off lamp module), I have not had any problems with light not coming on or being delayed. I have Vera centrally located in the house and all devices are within range of it directly, so that might help.
Would you guys like a little cheese with your whine??
@enrico777 There can be delays, even with a small network of devices. It could be any number of things causing it though. A bad device or one that is going bad, unused devices that were not properly excluded from the network, layout of devices, interference, issues with Vera and/or the Z-Wave stick could all be contributing to the delay problem. The Z-Wave technology’s operation should be almost instant in a perfect situation, but other factors can cause delays.
I think Vera is going to be the best solution for you with the iphone, especially when the SQ Connect app hits the stores. While you wait for the app to be released, I would use this time to dial-in Vera with all of your devices and set up scenes. Then when the app is available for purchase, you’ll be all ready to go.
@Anyone who is tired of waiting for the iphone app… I just want to say that Square Connect has been busting their @ss on this app. They have been very responsive to our input and have taken the opportunity to add a lot of functionality that wasn’t there when we started the Beta. Every new version from them has improved an already great product. If anything delayed the release at all it wasn’t the SQ Connect team or any lack of effort, but factors beyond their control. Rest assured that we have seen the final Beta release (as was already mentioned here), so next comes the app store.
Is there going to be a charge for this app? How much?
