Internet down and hue

I don’t understand something. My internet just went down and I lost connection to my hue lights. However I can talk to the hue bridge and control it locally via tablet. Vera plus shows the correct address on my internal LAN. Since both the hue bridge and Vera are on the same subnet why can they not talk and why must the hue cloud be involved?

Hello FilthyBest. The answer is because Philips API only allows for us to communicate with the Hue via Cloud to Cloud connection. All communication between Vera and Philips is done server to server. Z-Wave, ZigBee and Bluetooth lighting is a local within the the home and will work when your internet is down.
