Inexpensive Touchscreen Controller

Wonder how well this would work as a touchscreen controller for Vera:

Only $275 now.

The top review on Amazon rips this thing as super slow and buggy… the only positive reviews appear to come from the Chinese devs of the product. Love the idea of it though… I was hoping that Vera could be something that would easily integrate the several ipod touches we have around the house, but I am not too sure about that plan now that the Vera box i just bought is purely Flash-based :frowning:

You will want to use the squareconnect app on those ipod touches… perfect controllers for around the house. I am thinking of picking up a couple myself just for this purpose.

Agree most reviews said it was slow, but if it was simply interfacing with web access to Vera, might be OK.

Is SquareConnect software available, or still vaporware?

Does the SquareConnect work with UI3? Also, I am having trouble finding it on the App Store… Any suggestions on what to use for a search keyword? “Square connect” doesnt come up with any results, nor can I find it under ‘Home automation’…

The square connect app does work with UI3, but it is not available in the App Store yet. They have said in other forum posts that they will submit it to Apple soon, and that they will post here when they do.

Why settle for an 8 gig Changmi for $275 when you can get a new 8 Gig iPod Touch for $175??

A hundred dollars is a hundred dollars. ???

Looking forward to it, although for me UI2 and findvera.com/mobile works reasonably well on iPod Touch for basic functions and has a good look.

Simply screen real estate really.

Obviously there are those out there using the SQ now, so is it a closed beta and I have to wait for apple to approve it, or is there a way for me to get this now?

It is a closed beta, as all unreleased iPhone apps are. Apple only allows an unpublished app to be installed on a small number of devices (100 I believe).

I am beta testing the SQ Connect app and it is very responsive and does work with UI3. And without any changes it would probably look just as good on the ipad, but I think they’ll probably try for an ipad optimized version later. Having only one ipod touch with the app does present some problems with the wife, now she wants to know when she’ll get SQ Remote on her ipod. It’s so easy even a wife can do it…lol

ps I usually get used iTouches for about $150 on ebay and they’re in great shape (Bing Cashback even cheaper)
