If I go to http://192.168.0.3/wizard/ and hit Insteon: Add, after installing the plugin it doesn’t automatically detect the switch and if I enter in the ID manually it says: Command failed: Insteon not ready
I can get the Vera within about 6 feet of the switch with no change in response.
Does anyone else have this switch or another Insteon that can suggest a way to get it connected?
Alternatively, does anyone know of a similar switch that is Z-Wave?
I contacted support yesterday, but I’m guessing they don’t work weekends so I’m still trying to figure it out.
The Insteon switch works on a different RF frequency and protocol than Z-Wave, bringing it close to Vera will not make a difference. You will need a compatible modem to operate the switch.
This Switch is not a Dual Band (Non RF) Insteon device. You will need a PLM controller first (2413U) to be able to control Non Dual Band devices. If the Insteon device is on the other side of the fuse phase you will need a access point (2443P) to bridge the gap between the phases. Once you have installed the PLM, all you need to do is press the small pairing switch in the insteon device and Vera will detect it. Hope this helps
The switch is Insteon which means it is RF 900MHz
The switch will also work using PLC (X-10)
You will need a modem to operate the switch with Vera and to remove the “INSTEON:No INSTEON” error message, the 2413U has been reported to work in UI4.
Access points (2443P) to bridge the gap between the phases will only work via Insteon RF and will not give any benefit to PLC (X-10) equipment.
Correct me if I am wrong, but not all Insteon devices are RF, only dual band devices are. I have the 2466SW and when it was on the other phase the PLM 2413U could not communicate with it. When I installed the switch to the same phase the PLM was able to communicate with it. I think all Single band Insteon devices only work through Powerline.
With respect, I will correct you. This is an old topic, but I found it through Google while troubleshooting my own issues with a 2876SB so someone else may wind up here the same way …
Not all Insteon devices support RF. Most of them support Relaying commands, this is what makes the Insteon ‘mesh network’ work, but they don’t all support RF. If you don’t believe me, consult this document: http://www.insteon.net/pdf/insteonthedetails.pdf
The 2876SB, the one we’re talking about here, is a Power-Line only device. It does not have an RF interface, only a Power-Line interface (it only sees Insteon messages that are on the physical wiring in your home). Some Insteon devices support both the RF and Power-Line interfaces, and Insteon refers to these as “Dual Band”. The 2876SB is not one of these devices.
The OP seemed to have a basic problem – no PLM. Hopefully they have sorted this out by now
