I just received my vera and a couple of schlage locks. The vera simple automated setup is a misnomer.
When I plug it it to my home network and wait a couple of minutes, vera can not access the internet( power light flashes). When I enter local.findvera.com, IE8 gives an invalid address error msg. When I enter 192.169.81.1, I get the setup page , go to advanced/network turn off dhcp and firewall: I can then get to the internet thru vera however the power light still flashes. And I can nolonger access the setup page. This should not be this hard. Also tried cable from laptop to lan port on vera with no joy
It is easy, assuming you have a regular home network, i.e. your router with working DHCP that assigns IP to Vera. It just works. Vera’s capabilities of LAN auto-discovery are very impressive.
The fact you had to enter 192.169.81.1 means your router’s DHCP server is disabled, or you don’t have any available IPs in the allowed DHCP range.
My router’s dhcp server correctly assigns ips to various laptops so I dont understand
I actually had a bit of trouble with mine as well. Never would pick up a DHCP address from my router. I finally had to assign a secondary ip address to my computer’s network card (my router assigns on the 192.168.1.1 scheme) so I could get to the box, then essentially turn the box into nothing more than a hub (turn off all the firewall and other jazz) and manually assign it an address on my network.
It was peachy keen after that.
Don’t know if this has been resolved yet. What brand/model router? I have a Dlink DIR655, that and other routers I know allow you to set a certain number of ‘allowed’ computers on your network before ceasing to assign IPs. You may need to look into that.
I had the same experience on my Apple network. I spent hours trying every suggestion I could find in the wiki and forum. I restarted one thing and then another, all to no avail. Eventually, I gave up my research and restarted the iMac, cable modem, Time Capsule, and Vera all at once. Before leaving it all behind, I just had to check findvera.com one more time, and miracle of miracles, it was there, the green button.
