Hi -
I have two different sets of Hue bulbs, both the small A19 and the larger BR30, in my home. Both work perfectly as far as being able to turn them on and off and set brightness with the Hue plugin. For the BR30’s that are in recessed lighting, I’ve set up the pre-sets for all bulbs with the same color pattern and can use them in scenes without problems. For example, turn 2 of the lights red when the garage door is open, back to normal when it closes.
This doesn’t seem to work with the A19 bulbs. What I’ve done in the setting for bulbs is program in the color and assign it to a preset (1 through 6). When I select one of the presets, the bulb appears to set the color, and then it immediately dims itself all the way down. It happens with all 4 of my A19 bulbs. Is anyone able to set their color presets? Am I doing something wrong?
Thanks in advance.
I do know that manipulating the color variables in the Hue plugin can cause LuaUPnP to crash. When you notice the device’s interface becomes unresponsive its because the systems restarting. I don’t know how that affects what you’re doing. Unfortunately it doesn’t seem that the plugin supports entering color values numerically.
I would like to use colors more for signaling too. please post if you get it to work better.
I looked at this a little more. I noticed in the log files that vera defaults to polling hue every sixty second. For me this makes up a major portion of my logs. What happens when Vera is polling for state while you are making presets adjustments in the hue device settings? Perhaps confusion happens.
I tried disabling polling and found programing the presets much more consistent. I tried two scenes (A19 bulbs) and they both worked for the colors I setup under presets.
You may want to check you logic for something else turning off the light.
Edit: the developer said that the “color then off” can be caused by a weak signal at the hue lamp. He sets color then turn the light off before setting the final level. If the light doesn’t hear the last command then the condition you describe occurs.
I’ll give it a try to disable polling…did you do that in the Hue controller or on the bulbs themselves?
Vera just polls the hue controller. You can’t control poll individual hue bulbs, AFAIK.
But your red bulb problem seems pretty clearly (from the developers comments) to be that bulb not getting the last command. You’re probably going to need to make a hardware change to get that bulb to work right every time.
