Now 2 months later and with latest firmware 1.7.481 , i can mount an USB stick in UI7 on my Vera lite with an usb-hub.
I enabled the option "store logs on USB device"and the status is enabled.
With winscp i can read the logs in /tmp/log/cmh.
BUT i thought when logs are on the USB stick they are getting bigger so you can look for data for days/weeks even months ago.
But that is not possible, still the same as opening the log myip:3480/data_request?id=lr_EventWatcher&report=log, the also only for the last 12 hours or less.
I also read that logs are stored on mios ftp server, but no access to that with my account.
So question : what is the benefit of storing the log to USB?? Only for helping the Vera (Lite) to have more ram/memory free for better performance?
Or is this still a UI7 bug?
And is there another way of looking to older data/log (more dan 1 day), beside the nice datamine plugin?
Be aware that the EventWatcher log is not the same as the Luup log file. The log report from EventWatcher is determined by the buffer length set in the Advanced tag parameter. There is an EventWatcher option to write continuously to a file, which is rotated every week, and separately to a Syslog server. See the docs for details.
If you want a longer Luup log file without rotating, you’ll have to look for instructions elsewhere… I’m sure it’s been discussed before on the forum.
I also read that logs are stored on mios ftp server, but no access to that with my account.
Mios/Vera Ltd. are the only ones with access to those logs. They use them (supposedly) for an automated trouble hunting system that will supposedly improve the software. They also use it for resolving issues that you raise when you open a support incident.
If you uncheck Archive old logs on server then they will not be deleted and will stay on your USB device when rotated. It only keeps 10 files in rotation, regardless of available space, so the age of your logs will vary depending on activity and logging verbosity. My present oldest log LuaUPnP.log.10.gz begins five days ago.
Repair report logs seem to never be deleted. Mine go back for a couple of years.
Thanks for answers.
@akboer, now i understand it and i was looking for your solution to log the device data for longer time. I also have datamine and filled in the directory to store the eventwatcher data in this dir and works very good (described in manual).
I have 2 usb sticks, 1 for logging datamine (and now eventwatcher) and the second for logging to USB for/ vera luup log.
Since i dont use the logging to usb, could i remove this stick so that i use 1 USB stick?
Or is there another benefit (cache or somnething) to use the other stick in Vera?
