How to send SMS notification to Google Voice phome number

I want to send SMS notifications to my Google Voice number. Google Voice numbers will accept SMS text and anyone can send SMS to it free of charge. However when I register my Google Voice number in my MCV account Google Voice is not listed as a provider so I have to register it as ‘Other’. MCV thinks that they have to pay for such a call and limits me to only 2 messages.
How can this be fixed???

What type of phone do you have? I also use GV a lot, I actually don’t even know my real number. I hate text messages though, I much rather just use email for communication.

If you are using an Android based phone I would look at the VeraAlerts plugin and Android app @ http://forum.micasaverde.com/index.php/board,21.0.html

It uses push and also has TTS.

I just found this, http://www.gmailsms.com/

It will allow you to send an email and have it forwarded to your GV number as a SMS.

You may have tried this already but, can you try inputting your GV number, and then select your real cellular provider? If mcv sends a verification sms, shouldn’t it eventually end up on your phone?

I originally setup having the mcv servers sending notifications to my mobile phone, but switched to Vera Alerts for one big reason.

Each sms that mcv sent was sent from a unique origination, thus, the sms app on my phone would not put the notifications in a single conversation. The phone thought each message was from a different sender/contact. That was a “no want” for me, so I disabled the sending of SMS from mcv.

I also have Google Voice, though I never tried setting it up as you are trying to do because of my “big reason” above.

No, you cannot. I am a long time GV user and have wished for this functionality for a while now. Google is supposedly working on it.

You cannot send an SMS to a GV and pick your provider because the SMS originates as an email to your providers gateway (210xxxxxxx@txt.att.net, for example). That is why you you have to select a provider.

I concur with gibby, VeraAlerts is the way to go.
