How to clear everything from VeraPlus

A few days ago I updated the to the latest firmware. Up to this time I’ve had no trouble with updates but this one has made my VeraPlus flakey even after the factory reset.

After I updated the firmware the controller would not boot so I did a factory reset and reloaded an older configuration. Afterwords several units were missing.
And my MySensors device (that had been working great for months) would not respond to all inputs. It struck me that I had not reinstalled the MySensors Json xml etc files. So I’m guessing they were carried over during the factory Reset.

So my question is: Is there a method to completely wipe out all reminants of anything existing that is not part of the “core” Vera?

Thanks

Hello John,

I’m sorry to hear about the trouble. Resetting your Vera from Setting → Backup → Scroll to the bottom of the page → Reset to defaults, will clear your Vera completely.
Make sure you give it 5-10 minutes until boots back.

Hi Sorin,

The steps you suggested are exactly steps I performed for my FR after updating the firmware***. Yet the D_ArduinoNode? files are still there. (see attachment)
((*** my unit shows 1.7.3831 however since the update procedure “hung” at the end, is it possible the update routine was corrupted?))

So I’m thinking:

  1. The above FR does not clean everything
    or
  2. These files are restored with the backup.

In any case the MySensors device is not working now, when it did before the firmware update. So you can see my approach is to clean out all non “fresh from the box” files and start over again.

How can I accomplish this?

Thanks

JohnRob

The files are restored from the backup.
So if you remove plugin, then save the backup, then make Factory Reset and restore backup, you’ll clear your controller from plugin’s files.

Don’t ask me why it couldn’t be easier (i.e. why uninstalling plugin don’t clear controller from all its files).
I really wonder why.

As an afterthought:
Maybe you can remove files directly from the backup file (it is just compressed folder). But I’ve never tried such procedure and don’t know what are possible risks.

@kwieto,

Thanks for the info.

To clarify the situation, the files I am referring to were manually added by me (per the MySensors instructions). I’m not sor worried about these files but those (possible) files I am unaware of. For instance I’ve read there are some overlay file that build up over time and likely some tmp files.

So it sounds like there are two possibilities:

  1. Unpair all devices, perform a FR then manually build everything again.

or

  1. The above plus SSH into Vera and manually look around and delete any retained files that were not there when I first opened the Vera box. This is kind of like cleaning out the window registry. Both of which I am not qualified for.

@Sorin, Can you verify which of the above is the case here?

Thanks

John

Indeed, the files are restored by your backup.

You will have to delete the files from command line. Our Customer Care team can definitely help you. Log a ticket with them: contact details are in my signature.

@Sorin,

Thank you for the comment, however you missed my point:( My MySensors is not working properly after the firmware update. The mentioned file are required for MySensors to work. My logical position is

  1. either the firmware messed up MySensors (not likely)

  2. Possible corrupt information (also not likely) is reinstalled with the backup.

  3. There are some other files (that I am not aware of) that are causing this issue. ( in my mind most likely).

So does a FR delete all those other files (the ones I am not aware of) like overlays, temp files etc? i.e. bring it back to the just taken of the of box condition.

If it is my plan is to perform a FR and manually rebuild my network/system again, without using any backup file.

Thanks

John

John,

I’d love to help but this is outside my area of expertise. First of all, I’d ask the Customer Care team (contact details in my signature), to see if they have something on this, otherwise, I will post this in the MySensors board and most probably had encountered the same issue and might be able to help.

I did factory reset of my controller recently and then saved list of luup files which are on a clear system.
I can post it here as a point of reffernce - you can compare what you have on the controller/backup file and then see possibly unwanted files by elimination.
I did such procedure for my controller saving the need of completely rebuilding the setup.
