How many posts before I can send personal messages?

Just received a personal message, but I cannot reply to it yet, probably due to my post count.

How many posts are needed before being allowed to send messages?

I believe it’s 25 :frowning:

I think this is a bit of a silly restriction personally…

Chris

I was hoping it was 20… but this is just one more to get me closer to being able to.

I actually have been registered on the forum for almost a year now… but find most answers I need with a search. But when I move into something new, it would be nice to be able to send a PM. Guess I will be able to before long… maybe in another year or so.

It is 25 posts and then you can send PMs. Just respond to this thread 4 more times and you should be good.

Oh really? This is terrible news! I don’t want to fill up the board with meaningless posts, but I fear the 25 message count is going to be a long painful struggle. And all I wanted to do was to PM someone because they suggested I send a Vera log file to them via PM.

Aggh…!

If the other person is out of Newbie status, he/she might be willing to PM you an email address.

about 25 times

25? I am at 11 and need to reply to a member. How to?

Yikes…25 posts…I guess I need to post more

If you are new to this like me and are actually starting to acquire components the questions start coming quickly and you will be at 25 in no time probably.

cue…we are almost there.

@John, yes sir. almost there. Did you see my “list” for the locks in my thread? I didn’t see you post back so I wasn’t sure if it was helpful or not.

I did. I was at the end of my reply when my pc bluescreened…and then I forgot that the reply likely didn’t get thru as I dealt with the other (work) stuff that I hadn’t saved. Thanks for sharing it…I found it very helpful. I actually considered buying both a schlage and yale from someplace that has no hassle returns, ideally local to avoid return shipping cost. Then using both for a short period and returning the less reliable one.

i think 25 limit is too much

could i write to a mod to reconsider this limit

The posting limits required for PM were put in place specifically to slow down spammers, and over-zealous posters.

It gives the moderators time to figure out who’s mis-using the system, so that they can block these users and prevent/slow a wider spread of damage to the community.

Posting meaningful questions, with suitable amounts of detail, will eventually get you PM rights… It’ll also avoid you looking like a spammer (I nearly blocked you for all the random posts you’ve put out there for the sole purpose of attaining PM rights… since you look/behave just like the spammers do)

thanks for your answer, I will be careful from here onwards

I’m not complaining, this is a place for sharing technical knowledge, and for helping people. NO place for spam. But my old eyes sure have a hard time with that verification. I usually have to request 3 or 4 images to get something I can guess. Then, I still enter a letter wrong.

I’ll deal with it.

Chris

The verification codes don’t last that long, they’re typically 3-4 posts for a new user… Right around the time folks post about not liking them ;).

They were the fort line of defense, but required the MCV mods to maintain them, which it seems they aren’t.
