When I switch on a Z-Wave switch, it says something like "Waiting for node to reply after 1 " and so on. How do you set status messages like that on your own devices when running the job to turn it on or off?

To my knowledge, you can’t.
In (at least) UI4, there isn’t even any feedback that a job is still underway, not like you get with Z-Wave devices in the dashboard. Though, oddly, if you make a scene and put your device’s job as an action in the scene, you do get feedback, for the scene.
This contradicts some of the wiki documentation.
