How do I Automate my Garage door opener?

Hi

I have a marantec 260 electric garage door. I would like to home automate the garage door via my z-wave network. Problem is that my install didn’t include having a switch on the wall so I am going to have to piggy back off he on board garage door relay in the unit. …

Does anyone know anything about the marantec 260?
Or has anyone tried doing this?

Thanks
N

There is another option.
I use a iTach wifi relay. Actually that has three relays.
I have two garage doors. I use two of the relays to connect to a hand held garage door open. I think I paid about $15 for the garage door opener on the Internet. It also supported three doors.

Then I connected the relays to the garage door opener. Had to disassemble the garage door opener and do a little soldering … But it was pretty easy. The wifi has better range than the z-wave so it is very reliable.

Of course you will want to use the garage door plugin.

We automate garage doors all the time. We have a lot of info here.

If you have any questions, please contact us.

Unless your door opener uses one of the digital coded signals, you could use eg the Telguard GDC1. It connects to the 2 connections on the garage door opener that a wall panel connects to. If you can open/close your garage door by shorting those two connections momentarily, the GDC1 will work. It shows up as an on/off switch so it’s compatible with most zwave controllers.

I’ve been using one of these without any issues for a year now…

over complicated replies above.

Get the mimo lite

Cannot recommend the Mimolite device as a solution if you want reliable feedback of door open/closed status. There are several discussions here that describe an unresolvable failure mode of the Mimolite that results in the device either incorrectly (or failing to) report its status. I replaced mine with a Telguard GDC1 (also recommended above) which is specifically designed for the purpose of controlling a garage door, and it works flawlessly.

Looks like the Marantec has two terminals 3 & 4 on the head unit that should work with the Linear GD00Z or the GDC1. Either one should do the job… no need to cobble.

I have to agree I have 4 garage doors controlled by MIMOlites. They work great and are cheaper then the others, but I have an alarm panel and I use alarm panel and the sensors on the doors and VERA are run threw the alarm not threw the MIMOlites. So I only use the realy part of the MIMOlite. That part works great but if you need a door sensor I too have heard of issue with the MIMOlite acting up on the sensor.

Thanks for the reply chaps

Checking out the GD00Z. Looks like a great bit of kit.

How did you find out about the 2 terminals on the head in the marantec?
I’m going to have open it to check it out.

Thanks

The manual for the Synergy 270 is HERE. The 260 is the same as the 270…

A quick check of some of the manual show that the control panel/impulse button for all Marantec America models connect to terminal 3 and terminal 4 of the opener.

Both the Telegard GDC and the GD00Z (I have two) are specific garage door opener solutions. The users manual for your opener can be located from the link below.

It appears from this documentation that touching the two wires connected to terminals 3 & 4 will activate the door. This is how both of these units work by shorting the connection between the two terminals. You pair it with Vera, connect the leads from the zwave GDO to terminals 3 & 4, and mount the door sensor.

Some openers do not work this way and send pulses to the opener from the controller. If this is the case with your model you can wire the leads from the GD00Z or GDC1 to a remote button or a wall controller.

I used this relay

I bought a cheap plastic outlet box at Home Depot. I used a cut extension cord to power the relay and then wired the contacts to the wired wall switch. You have to remove a jumper to isolate the contacts from the energizing power but it is simple and apparent.

I mounted the box at the outlet that powers the garage door opener (very close to the opener). The relay has a button to manually engage.

It works fine but you have to use a scene that engages the relay for 2-4 seconds then opens it which simulates a push of the wall mounted garage door opener button.

I say “Alexa, open garage door” or “Alexa, close garage door” if you say “the garage door” sometimes she adds it to your todo list instead. Sadly, saying “Alexa, open the pod bay doors” only elicits a snarky response from Alexa.

The “garage door” plugin fixes this for you. It makes it into a door lock icon and does the 2-4 second back off for you. It allows you to put in a device ID for the relay and a separate one for the sensor. It will then lock and unlock and show the status all in one device like a door lock.

I have a marantec garage door opener and have the gdooz working great on it. I just connected to the terminals that the wall switch was connected to and works like a charm.

Awesome, thanks for the tip.
