Hi there,
We will be buying a new kitchen next year. I would like to have a few ideas how a tablet for remote control can be nicely integrated into it.
Who would like to share his/her integration?
thanks,
Steve

I have an iPad Mini in a wall mount powered by a POE adapter. Running homewave and a sonos app. Works very well for that.
I bought one of these from geekland.co which has yet to arrive. I plan on mounting it by the front door between the kitchen and the living room and have plans to use it as an alarm keypad, an automation base station, web camera, and eventually a Sonos controller. It is POE powered which will be on a 24 hour UPS in order to be reliable as an alarm keypad.
I plan on loading:
AuthomationHD
DSC Security Keypad
Sonos
I will post a few pics of it installed once it arrives.
I mounted a standard samsung tab running imperihome in the kitchen by making an opening in the wooden frame.
I control a lot from here: music, lights, heating etc.

Looks nice
Mine is simple: Nexus 7 (2013) and a Tylt Vu wireless charging dock on my end table in the living room. I run iRule to control all my A/V gear as well as Vera. I also created a custom scene using Tasker and AutoVera that updates the status of all my devices in near real-time and allows me to control all my lights/temperature/etc. and includes feedback. I’ve attached a screenshot of the Tasker scene.
I have used some different devices over the years. I started using my already existing kitchen computer (an old Windows tablet). Since then I have used a Nexus 7, iPad 1 and now I run a cheap 10" Huawei Android tablet. I usually just wire it up to a set of speakers (I like listening to music when I cook) and use this for TTS notifications using VeraMate. I mostly use AuthomationHD.
I bought a used iPad off ebay and a flush mount wall bracket from http://www.ipadwallbracket.com/. I have it integrated with Vera through the use of Homewave. I’ve included a couple of pics. The first is the main screen which shows some basic weather information and some occupancy data. The second is a pic of the irrigation control (through OpenSprinkler).
I just put an iPad into my kitchen wall today so it can serve as a central control point. At some point in the future I will likely switch it to landscape once my smoker manufacturer updates their wifi app to support landscape mode or when Apple finally adds split screen app support to iOS. I used this mount from Amazon.
It was cheap which made it a no brainer. I am working with the Sweet Home 3D program to create a 3D floor plan image of my house which I will add to the HomeWave app so that my light switches are positioned where I have lights in my house. I hope to have that finished up sometime later this week if not this weekend.

How did you go about getting power to it?

I pondered that for a long time and then I realized that I had a power outlet in the wet bar cabinet right alongside the wall. As such, I ran a USB lightning cable from the charger in the cabinet through a hole into the wall and straight up to the ipad. The only issue was getting the wire up through the wall. What I did was drop some yarn with a very slight weight on the end from the mounting hole down into the wall near the floor where the hole was drilled through the cabinet and drywall and then used a shop vac with a small 1/2" tube taped to the tip and put that into the hole in the cabinet into the wall cavity to suck the yarn through. It worked like a charm. Then I used the yarn to fish the cable up through the wall to where the iPad was.
Super easy to pull romex from the switch below, and use a wall plug with a USB port built in
As a side note, I’m using Homewave as my go to Vera interface for the wall controller. I’ve spent a bit of time over the last couple days working in Sweet Home 3D to create a decent floor plan for my house. It’s still a work in progress but this is where I am at with the downstairs. I still have some more detail to add but I like the way it’s shaping up. I was able to place the HomeWave switches in approximate locations of where the lights are. This is my default screen for the wall iPad. I think it’s a bit more intuitive than a bunch of switches in rows on the screen and looks a bit better. Once I’m completely satisfied with the downstairs floor plan, I’ll work on another screen for the upstairs as well as climate control.
What did you use for a mount? I considered using a clock box for power but with my mount being a flush mount, there wasn’t a good way to do that short of buring it inside the wall. Fortunately, I had power near by and was able to conceal the charge cord so it wasn’t needed.

I actually just used 3M command strips, then fit a wood photo frame around it that I can remove easily.
looks nice, and like this you don’t see the power connection either
