Home Buddy on Nook Color

Has anyone tried Home Buddy on a Nook Color? It’s android-based, and it seems like it would be the perfect controller.

I do not see why it would not work. Just have to root the nook. I am very tempted to pick one up to keep around the house. Especially that honeycomb is coming out and there has been much progress in porting it to the nook color! Can we say best bang for the buck tablet!

Works very well! I’ve been using it for couple months, as I have rooted NC running Nookie Froyo. And had to pick up the second one for my wife when it was on sale just recently…

I picked one up, and it does work very well!

The only thing I would like to see (and I’m not sure if this can be done within the Android framework) is that the app not launch when I push one of the buttons on the desktop. Other than that, seems just fine.

I figured it would work for the Nook Color.

I was about to pull the trigger on a Nook until I realized that I could get (2) Coby Kyros 7" Touchscreen Tablet’s from Wally World for the price of (1) Nook. Since then, I have rooted my Kyros and I am also able to make calls from the Kyros via GoogleVoice, SipDroid, PBxes.org and for half the cost as a Nook. More bang for the buck!
I plan on buying more Coby’s and place them throughout the house with Home Buddy. My favorite all time App!!!

There is very big difference between screens on Nook and Coby - both 7", but Nook’s is higher resolution and sunlight readable. But if you don’t care for that, it definitely makes sense to buy cheaper one. Does it have capacitive or resistive touchscreen?

Yeah, the Coby is def. less expensive so its not going to have nearly the specs of say an iPad. You kinda get what you pay for, but I was quite impressed with the Kyros and it doesnt feel cheap at all. It’s def. well worth the price. It has a resistive touchscreen (plastic) and not a capacitive (glass) touchscreen. However, it does get the job done and there is hardly no drag on the resistive screen. The cheaper tablets def. have to be rooted in order to be worth anything.

I’m not sure of the Nook, does the Nook have to be rooted in order to get access to Google’s Android Market? The tablet that I use is mostly for just Home Buddy to control Vera and to access my security cameras. My tablet is mostly indoors so I’m not too concerned with it being in direct sunlight. Oh, another question for the Nook users.

How is the battery life with the color Nook? How long on a full charge does the Nook last? I can get about 7 to 8 eight hours on a full charge with the Kyros (with some battery tweak apps I am able to pull off a good 10hrs). I need to figure out a way to mount a receptacle inside the wall to hide the charger and keep everything hidden in the wall, so I won’t have to worry about keeping the tablet charged.
