HELP!

Good evening guys,

At the risk of sounding like a total idiot, I need help, with Parameters and Variables configurations and establishing Associations.

I have been working for the last several days, trying to modify the variables and association, for 2 motion sensors, at this point I am very close to trowing them out.

The first motion is a ZOOZ ZSE40 same as (VISION ZP3111-5) and a Co-Control motion same as (LINEAR WAPIRZ-1).

I always get the following messages ( ERROR: Unable to get any information on node ) and ( Failed at: Setting user configuration ) among other similar ones.

I have paired them unpaired them, deleted them, you name it I’ve done it, now the batteries are getting weaker and weaker from all the restarting.

Please help.

Dom Desperate.

I’ve recently posted instructions for how to configure parameters and how to configure associations. Assuming that you are following these correctly, then your issues are likely due to the devices being battery operated.

Battery operated devices sleep for most of their lives. While sleeping, they cannot be polled or configured. Many times, they will configure when they wake up and Vera is able to reach them, but this connection never happens fro some devices. For this reason, it is usually necessary to manually initiate the initial configuration of a battery operated device.

First you need to read the instructions for your particular device. There is should explain awake/configuration mode and how to get the device to stay awake for a few seconds(typically 10-20 seconds). This may be by removing and reinserting the battery, or by pressing the tamper switch 5 time in 3 seconds, or who knows. It’s in the device’s manual.

  1. Include your device.
  2. Setup the configuration on Vera as needed.
  3. On Vera, open the device’s Settings tab and locate the “Configure node right now” button, but don’t press it.
  4. Force the device into awake mode.
  5. Click “Configure node right now”, before the device goes back to sleep.

Vera should then be able to configure the device with what ever parameters or associations you’ve configured.

Z-Waver,

You are right as usual, they are battery operated, your response give me hope and provided me with a different direction.

I will be looking at the Express Control AC operated version, if I am unsuccessful with your suggestion.

For devises like motion sensors whenever I want to make any changes to it’s configuration I try to get them on real power first, maybe via USB cable. That way they stay awake and can take the configuration change without playing with it.

Richard,

How do you do that, all my motion sensors are battery operated, thus no USB connections.

Welp, sux to be you then. LOL ;D

In your case you obviously will not be able to do that. Battery devices mean they do not help with your mesh network, sleep alot to conserve battery, report less often (temp, humidity and such not motion) also to conserve battery and when your trying to configure or work with the z-wave network the controller will not get a response back from the device if its asleep, then it will think its not working.

Bottom line is if possible, avoid battery only devices. Or manually wake up the devcie (read the devices instructions) before trying to get vera to communicate with it or it will time out/fail.

I would ever answer a thread with that title.

Dom

integlikewhoa,

You had me thinking, if I were to replace the infamous batteries from the motion sensors with a power supply or wall wart.

This would resolve the issue ?
