help with version downgrade to 2.78

Hi guys

Im using version 3.2 but they sold me a sensor that only works with 2.78 Ive tried all the wikis and cant find anything on downgrading apart from the general idea that you untick the box that selects 3.2 on startup but this doesnt seem to work

Can anyone give me detailled instructions on how to change from 3.2 to 2.78 for a sensor. Hope it doesn’t involve a full restart

Thanks

From the wiki:

[ul][li]Unplug Vera’s power and reconnect it.[/li]
[li]When Vera starts up, uncheck the “Use Z-Wave version 3.20 instead of 2.78” box, close the popup and save.[/li]
[li]Wait a couple minutes and confirm that the Z-Wave version is now 2.78.[/li]
[li]Then choose the Advanced option from the toolbox, select the backup tab, check the option “Restore Dongle”, click “Choose File”.[/li]
[li]Select the backup file you created, and click “Restore”.[/li]
[li]Wait about 10 minutes and everything should be back to what it was before you upgraded to version 3.20.[/li][/ul]

I believe you may need a backup that was created before you upgraded to 3.20 though?!

That is my assumption as well. A data migration is done (the “hack”) to convert from 2.78 to 3.20 format. So when downgrading to 2.78, you’d have to restore a backup that was created with 2.78 (as per the first steps in the wiki).

@peterd,
Can you provide brand/model of the sensor in question?

Dont get it followed the steps in the wiki but version remains at 3.2. Also re backup if you do one with the current version it would be a back up of version 3.2… so I presume if you have done an upgradfe to 3.2 that there would be an automatic backup of 2.78
…if so then I might have to a factory reset which means I loose everything…this so much fun like your kidding…I havent found one thing that works with this crap!!

Hi

Im looking at having to do a restore to factory default now and I was looking at the firmware upgrade FAQ section. After seeing various versions mentioned there I went to my dashboard to check what I had and it said version 1.1.1362.

Which isnt even mentioned in the FAQ ( this is just typical of everything I have had to do with vera there is no logical sequence to any instruction on operating, installing or troubleshooting anything)

I was wondering if anyone knows anything about this version as it isnt even mentioned in the list of upgrade/downgrades in FAQ

and I would like to know more before I restore factory default and stuff everything

It might be better to completely delete all from my computer and start a new installation and when prompted to upgrade firmware just ignore it

I have been down this path eeryly its a kind of negative deja vu I have the feeling that if I try a downgrade the whole chip will become inoperative and that will be the end of it

Ive been slowly but surely been led down the path to oblivion with this product :-[

As I am having humungous problems with every device I am totally pissed off with this

.1362 is supposedly a minor update over .1350, which is a minor update over .1338, the last officially released beta firmware; which is better than the officially released .1245.

See this page.

not sure but if i remember correctly 1338 also broke some minor things inc correct display of some thermostat settings, i was never clear that any of the later betas corrected this, that is why I’m looking forward to the promised final release for UI4 which is supposed to inc all known fixes

LOL, you know I’m feeling the love, but UI4 will continue on the old box for a bit as I depend on that one. Meanwhile V3 (UI5) will run a subsystem until it proves reliable. 8)

Thanks dude but my problem is that I cant get anything to work re camera and sensor. The sensor keeps saying failled to find version so being a newbie Im just struggling to find an answer to the problem.

Is it referring to the firmware version because the camera documentation recommends version 2.78 (or above)

I dont want to do a firmware downgrade unless necessary

Is version .1368m any good or is it behind my problem with the sensor

Should I try an exclusion and then inclusion again?

Some people say that you have to uncheck the boxes to select versions in the device option tab then save. I tried that nothing happens. Atleast the screen shot of the device in device options still shows version 3.20

Any advice would be appreciated

What is the sensor you are trying to include? If its a Zwave device like an HRDS1 or an Aeon door/window sensor (or any other battery device for that matter), then the issue you probably have is that the sensor likely went to sleep just after the inclusion completed; Vera normally performs additional MiOS related setup, and now needs to query the device further for its capabilities/versions after it included!

The message about the trying to get version is likely that Vera is trying to query the firmware version of the device itself, but cant as it may be sleeping now.

If it is a battery operated Zwave device then you may want to wake it up again, and shortly after you’ve done this, press the “Conigure node right now” button in the settings tab of the device you are having problems with.

Waking battery Zwave devices up varies (but normally pressing a button, or tripping the sensor with the magnet etc), but the key is to use the configure node now button shortly after you’ve done this.

If left alone long enough, these types of devices will eventually sort themselves out.

Thanks for that i tried it and it has stopped the failled to find version message but now says cant find any information on node can you tell me what that means and how to fix

What is the device? Some of these things are a bit finicky to include!

yep its just a battery sensor motion/illumination and temperature

Can you tell us the make and model?

thanks for the help I have actually got it working it was all due to the instruction given to me by the seller to untick use 3.2 instead of 2.78 in the device options tab

as the sensor was a version 2.78 device

but I know now that you have to upgrade the device to your vera version not the other way around so leave the box checked to make the device use 3.2

That shouldn’t matter as nodes should be backwards compatible. I’ve had my V2 running on 2.78 and 3.20 with zwave nodes that have versions that are likely to be older that 2.78!

I think you got some misinformation from the dealer

The whole process for migrating vera from 2.78 to 3.20 can go wrong, and will prevent you from being able to include properly if the zwave chip is not factory reset after, or the hack script is not used after the migration.

Dunno mate but all I know is as soon as I went back to using 3.2 it worked so Im happy

while your here do you know anything about foscam cameras cause I cant get it too work either as yet.

Ive got a pic on the dashboard but cant control the pan. Not that Im too worried about that.

All I want is to have the camera take a snapshot each time the sensor is tripped.

got any advice on this re settings and where is the photo archived?

Good news anyway!

So for the Foscam, if you are using UI5 then I believe you may have to wait a few days until somebody figures out how to get the pan and tilt working again. It used to work with a custom plugin that was based off of the Panasonic one, however in UI5 the camera plugin is integrated and I dont think anyone has worked out how to update the device file with the Foscam specific PTZ commands… hold in there as I doubt it will be long

For the setup and archive of pictures you’ll need to start by creating an account cp.mios.com that’s associated with your Vera if you haven’t done so already?!

The rest of the setup is all done through the cameras settings tab and you just need to tick the box for the sensor you want as the trigger, if you want a light to come on, and also if you want a picture to be archived etc.

See this post to get the controls to work on the camera. which model do you have? If it is the FI8918W model than use the file attached in the post below:
