Not sure where to post this message. I just thought this was very interesting for future home wiring and A/V racks and wondered if any of the Home Theater company folks here had any more information on this new development. Long live RJ-45  http://hdbaset.org/

While I personally don’t like proprietary cables, and its nice that if I needed a new cable that I could just use a Cat5/6 cable! I must say I don’t really see the need or point for this given the widespread HDMI adoption already.

Is there really a need for another standard? We already have displayport and that doesn’t seem to developing any traction in the CE arena; and all this despite its advantages of nearly double the bandwidth and being daisy chainable. Even Apples latest MAC Mini’s seem to have added in HDMI support recently despite the obvious Apple support of the standard.

Then you have the countless wireless standards; which to be honest is a better idea for some situations anyway.

HDMI cables and switches have gotten so ubiquitous/cheap anyway that I just don’t see anything else getting a look in or gaining traction.

I have my house cabled with some long HDMI runs so I wont be switching anytime soon unless they offer something that can compete or better on the HDMI-CEC standard.
